Here's a quick anecdote; This girl who I really like invited me outside to get a coffee, which I know means "JFK90787 let's get some privacy so you can make out with me". We get the coffee, things are going great. I lean in close, then closer, until we are about 3 inches from each other. I'm about to lean in and seal the deal when suddenly I feel sick. I just ate a footlong from subway about 30 minutes earlier, and my stomach goes berserk even when I get just a little nervous. I have to excuse myself "One sec, I'll be right back" and I run behind a building and start throwing up. I get back about 5 minutes later but the mood is spoiled, and we sit quietly for about 5 minutes while I smell like vomit and she looks away from me. For some ******ed reason the first thing I say when I get back is "Sorry, I get sick very easily." WHAT THE **** ARE YOU THINKING ******* WHY DID YOU JUST SAY THAT

But this problem of getting nauseous is something I've been dealing with for a while, and it happens sometimes before big tests, important interviews, etc. I talk to my real life friends about this and NONE of them say this ever happens to them. Since this website mostly a big happy family of like-minded neurotic and strung-up peeps, I'm wondering does this happen to anyone else here? Please someone have a similar problem so I know I'm not a freak.

Atleast you didn't j*** in your pants.

good point.

OP, i definitely get nervous but not to the point of vomitting.

that's a great story though for future generations 😀

oh, and how hot is this chick anyway???

ha throwing up/nausea is pretty big. but people get nervous in weird/crazy situations. it's natural, all i can say is try to relax as best as possible. if you mess up, oh well gotta get over it - it happens. lol now if it's w/ a patient haha that's no bueno.

Damn dude, that just sucks! I would've been so pissed.

When I get nervous, I don't get nauseous, I just get that stupid butterfly feeling in my stomach like really really bad and it's friggen annoying.

We're going to the movies on Wednesday so I have a chance to make it all right. The fact she was willing to still go with me after I blew her off to vomit has endeared her to me more, I think I'm in love.

But seriously, someone PLEASE tell me this happens to you too so I can feel normal

What's so bad about being abnormal? I'd say your problem is pretty rare but you seem to be doing fine with it. If it happens in med school it won't be the end of the world either; once you get comfortable it won't be a problem.

What are you going to do if she wants to mate with you? Is she one of those girls who look like they want to be puked on in a sexual manner?

7/10, maybe 8/10 if she wears make-up

oh, yea i would've been pissed...

well, at least you get a chance to make it up on wednesday. try to think happy thoughts!

good luck!

sometimes my eye twitches when I get really nervous/agitated. and the more i try to stop it, the faster it twitches.

there are other freaks in the world! hallelujah!

I feel your pain OP. I don't get nauseated, but I get faint and have on two occasions fainted during important situations. It sucks feeling like you aren't in control of your body 🙁

I don't exactly get nauseous, but when I'm nervous I have noticed that my stomach occasionally starts to growl / rumble / make other obnoxious noises. And yes, like you, it happened in front of a girl I liked.

You might have panic disorder or an anxiety disorder. Panic attacks are pretty much throat tightening and then nausea and shaking. A very good way is to always have a rubber band on your wrist. Whenever you start having one you pull the band and that'll distract your mind away from whatever is causing the panic. Chewing gum is also a good method.

Statistically they say 10% of people have an anxiety disorder. However this statistic could be extremely deflated ( my abnormal psych teacher said that its probably around 30%). So it's abnormal and if you feel like this might be impacting your life negatively then seeking psychological help wouldn't be a bad idea.

Nice diagnosis, bro. :bang:

I don't get shakes, doctor. But thanks for the help anyway

I didn't say s(he) has it. I said that it might be a good idea to go see a specialist to see if s(he) does. Not like I own a DSM anyways... Hmm.. I'm going to go amazon that right now...

No, you said he "probably" has it. And since you don't have a DSM, I assume this inference was based off of your own rock-solid criteria that you somehow derived from the OP. So....:bang:

Oh... I could have sworn I said might. I'm going to go edit it that.

I've never felt sick when nervous, but I did notice last semester during a couple of finals that I had a rash on my left arm that I hadn't ever seen before. At the end of every test, the rash was gone.

 good one

When i get nervous around someone i like i get the butterflies in the stomach feeling, when its about a huge test i lose my appetite and sleep, my appetite i don't mind so much but not sleeping is what bothers me the most.

"I can't believe no one has puked on your chest yet!!!!"

just for the record, "nauseous" means that you make other people want to throw up, "nauseated" means that you want to throw up.

This is the kind of hot insider knowledge that makes me aspire to be a physician

I get nauseated when I'm nervous too. I have never thrown up on a date thank goodness but I have before big exams or sports meets. If it helps I did throw up during a gymnastics expo once. Nothing like having an audience of over a hundred for your humiliation. Have you ever tried avocado on toast? I literally mash avocado on sourdough toast put a bit of lawry salt so it doesn't taste icky and that usually helps. Something in the avocado helps with upset stomachs.

Same problem as you OP! I'm hoping it doesn't occur before/during medical school exams!

What?.. So saying "I'm nauseous" is grammatically incorrect?

Depends on how you use it. "I'm nauseous" to describe your own feelings of discomfort would be incorrect. Now, I spent 6 hours dissecting today, and I definitely smelled like the 1% phenol afterward. I "was nauseous" because I probably made other people around me feel sick to their stomachs. Never really heard it used that way though. But I did learn this in 6th grade English, strangely enough.

I nearly puked on a date once, but that was a combination of being nervous and never before having tried sushi. WTF is the deal with sushi??? who enjoys eating raw, cold meat????

Try the cooked rolls! Like shrimp tempura for instance. Also ones with sauce, like the spicy mayonnaise. Go for rolls that seem as americanized as possible, and they will mesh with your tastebuds better. SO good. And step 1 of course is going to a sushi restaurant that's actually good. That can be a difficult task depending on where you live.
