When is Prevotella intermediate first detected in oral cavity?
Is it at birth, child or before periodontitis.

I did a little search and here is a quote from one of the papers:

Prevotella intermedia sensu lato is an obligatory anaerobic, black-pigmented, gram-negative rod that is frequently associated with periodontal disease: adult periodontitis, acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, and pregnancy gingivitis. This organism is also involved in extraoral infections such as nasopharyngeal infection and intra-abdominal infection.

There were a couple article showing that this bacteria could colonize children and be transferred between family members.

I don't believe this organism is present at birth, or before the teeth erupt.

yes answer is eruption of primary teeth coz many microorganisms come in oral cavity after eruption of primary teeth.

also, can anyone answer when does S.mutans first affects oral cavity?
is it when teeth erupts
or when caries occurs in mouth?

Why cant the answer be "b" introduction of solid food ?

well,i think most drastic change introduced in oral cavity is when first tooth erupts in the mouth coz many microorganisms come at that time[i have to check which one's]

Strep mutans finally has a competitive advantage when the teeth errupt because it provides the niche it needs (i.e. pits fissures interproximals). It is acidophilic and is able to adhere to these new surfaces and create an acidic atmosphere that it survives the best in (before this other bacteria, like strep salvarius out competed strep mutans and strep mutans had nothing to adhere to.)

streptococcus mutans only adhere to teeth and are absent from edentulous mouths...
infants acquire str. mutans during a "window of infectivity" peiod, 12.-24 months after the emergence of the first tooth..the microbe maybe transmitted from the mother which is the most common route..

its only habitat in the mouth is the tooth, its a commensal ..and disappears from the oral cavity if all teeth are lost..

sampling any tooth surface or dental plaque site will reveal str mutans, though in a lesser proportion compared to othe oral str, such as str.sanguis..

its found in a higher proportion in individuals with a high carbohydrate diet and in dental plaque adjacent to a tooth surface immediately prior to a white spot lesion...

so ,.. strep mutans first affects oral cavity after teeth erupt...
