So I just took AAMC 10 and I tried something different. I usually only get a max of about 6 hours before my practice tests, oftentimes less, and I've been doing very well. This time I tried getting a full nights rest of about 8 hours and I both under-performed as compared to my previous scores and general didnt feel as sharp as I usually do while testing. Anyone else like this where they are most prime for an FL on about 5-6 hours of sleep?

Lol. I'm joking. You will obviously get a 35+ looking at your tbr scores so do whatever works for you. But it can't be good for you in the long term. Limit the caffeine.

My body is attune to sleeping only 5 hours during the school year. During summers, I make sure to get 7 hours and 30 minute naps sometimes during study breaks.

I've found a phenomenon like this, except i think it just comes down to when you are operating at peak performance. When i get tons of sleep, i may feel groggy in the day, but wide awake at night. If i get less sleep (assuming its not too little to make me tired) ill have higher performance in the morning/early afternoon, then feel tired in the evening

Maybe you woke up in the middle of your sleep cycle or something. For me personally, if I get 7 or 8 hours I am screwed. If I get 7.5 hours I am golden.

I generally need eight-nine hours to feel fully refreshed. If I get any less than that, I'll under-perform and feel like a zombie. But if I get -more- than my optimal amount of sleep (like, say, 10 hours), I'll also feel like a zombie. It might be the same for you. Your body might just be so used to six hours, that eight hours was a bit too much to handle at once! That, or it was all just a fluke on Verbal.

Just my two cents!

I'd try not to get less than six hours of sleep, though...

Oddly yes, I feel like I perform at my prime with 4-5 hours. I usually wake up completely energized. If I sleep any longer than 7, I feel exhausted earlier in the day. Not sure what to make of it lol

I need at least 4-5 hours of sleep before finals in college to be effective. So I agree with Chahar. However, I do like to sleep up to 7 hours rarely past that unless it's jet lag.

I perform the best in the middle of the night lol so I'm sorta in the same boat. As long as I'm not falling over asleep sleep deprived, I tend to do my best. I cannot study during the day.

I admittedly do 7 verbal passage practice tests at 1am

I do!

I find I perform best on 6 hours of sleep. With much more than that, I feel groggy. With less than that, I feel like a zombie.

Great profile picture by the way! 🙂

The night before my MCAT I could not go to sleep for the life of me. I got out of bed at 12:30 am and read harry potter for an hour to finally fall asleep around 1:30, and 'woke up' around 6:30 after an awful night of sleep. I don't want to jinx myself, but I think I may have performed at my peak during the actual test. I didn't feel slowed down, or like I was rushing due to caffeine or anything.

Not sure if this was because I made sure to get good sleep the 3-4 nights before the exam so the one night sleep deficit didn't matter, but getting less sleep may have been part of my (hopefully) peak performance. I guess I can tell you in 3 weeks when I get my score back

Friend had 2-3 hours of sleep before they wrote the MCAT. Did better than usual in PS/BS but a few points lower in VR.

I think it has a lot to do with sleep cycle, 6,8 (and even 4) hours I do just fine. If it's 5 or 7 then I'm in trouble. If I happen to be more physically active during a time period (like spring and summer), I definitely need the 8 and arrange my life to get that if at all possible.
