Does applying to a program's SMP take you off the waitlist?

Title.

I'm on the waitlist at MWU and currently live in Scottsdale, AZ near Glendale. I'm thinking their masters of science program would help my app if I don't get in. The thing is being a local I talked with the dean and she said I have a good chance of getting in last minute if a spot opens up. So I want to stay in the running for the DO program, but also want to have a back up plan. What should I do? Is it worth applying or should I continue to wait and only apply to other SMP's even if it means relocating?

Thanks for the input.

Anybody know?

I don't know for sure, but I am going to AZCOM so I'm on your side! My gut tells me that they wouldn't remove you from the list. If you're concerned about it, I would write a Letter-of-Intent type of document. Let them know that you're applying for the MWU master's, since this will illustrate your interest in the program even further and show your commitment even though you're on the waitlist. I know some people don't like LOI's, and I'm no expert, but that's just my $0.02. Best of luck to you!

Back in December I was waitlisted pre-II at AZCOM and applied for their MABS program. I was accepted to MABS but then got an II at AZCOM a month later.

On the flip side, if you're accepted into their SMP, then abandon the SMP ship off the med school wait list, that would leave them with a last minute opening in their SMP program...

@Goro? What do you think?

Best to call the school about this. I don't think anyone on SDN will have a definite answer.

Ya I spoke with someone in admissions. They said it does not. And I actually trusted her too ha. She said its been done before where people apply both and will get accepted to the DO program because they need to fill the spot.
