Sorry about the acronym city. Anyway, at my school Physiology has its own category; PSL. Does that still count as a BCPM credit even though it's neither bio/chem/physics/math? Just curious.

Also I might as well ask this while I'm making this thread, what about zoology classes? A lot of my upper-level bio electives can be fulfilled by zoology courses (i.e. comparative anatomy of vertebrates) and also pharmacology classes. Even though the prefixes aren't BIO/CEM/PHY/MTH do they count towards BCPM? Thanks for the clarification.

physiology definitely.

they classify courses based on content, not course number/department. zoology sounds like they're biology to me, so yes.

yes, physiology and zoology are typical ciology classes.

Yep. I took it over the summer because I am an astronomy nut, but I found out half way through the semester that it counts and was elated. 😎

Thanks.... it helped a lot. I am happy astronomy counts too I am taking it next semester.

So am I safe to assume that a "statistical methods in psychology" (with a PSY-prefix) class can be factored into my BCPM as a math course?

I'm fairly certain that since it is a statistics course that covers methods used in psychology that it is more statistics than psychology. You may want to call just to clarify.

For future reference, you don't have to quote the whole post to respond. You can hit "Go Advanced" and remove all the unnecessary text. It just makes it easier for everyone else to browse easily.

At my university, Physiology is listed as a biology class but, as stated above, it falls into the Biology category for AMCAS regardless as to how it is listed at your school. If I am not mistaken my Exercise Physiology class counted on my BCPM GPA. Do you think a Neuromotor Control or a Biomechanics class will count...I am taking these this semester??

If neuromotor control is about muscle physiology, then yes, I'd think it would be biology. Biomechanics, depends on the course matter.

Are we talking about what makes up the biology grade point average on amcas as being separate from what they accept as fulfilling the biology requirement? I know that UF does not accept human anatomy/physiology as meeting the bio requirement..but interesting that amcas counts it towards your biological sciences GPA

You'd think that only AMCAS's point of view would matter. My original question is what classes count towards your BCPM GPA. This has been an informative thread, there are some classes that I wouldn't even suspect would be factored into BCPM

Also, when AMCAS makes your two GPAs (BCPM and AO) is AO just all your other classes, or is it just your non-BCPM classes. Hopefully the former, but from what I just read it sounds like the latter. 🙁

I looked at my friend's AMCAS app and it looks like AMCAS calculates three GPA's: BCPM(science GPA), Non-science GPA, and Overall GPA (all combined).
