Does it hurt that I took 12 hours on one of my semester?

I only took 12 hours last semester, will that hurt me in terms of application? I am applying next year, but I took 12 hours at the end of my junior year.

I ended up making a 3.75 that semester, but it was with 2 upper division biology course and two non sciences. I ended up with a B on one of the upper division course.

How would I be able to explain this during the interview? I did not drop any courses, I just thought that I would spend more time in volunteering working on a leadership.

All the other semesters I have been taking at least 15 hours each semester. With around a ~3.7 ish also.

I wouldn't even bother applying.

But seriously it's not a big deal at all. I think I had one semester ever with 15 hours and it never came up. Much better to make a 3.75 taking 12 hours than a 3.5 taking 18.

Damn the paranoia really sets in around application time.

You will be fine dude. Some applicants don't even take full time classes.

Im going guess course load is way down the list of selection criteria for most schools. Somewhere near BMI.

I have a BMI of 57, do you think that will hurt my application at all?

Well, that's just yucky. You should be dead. If any of your schools ask for a 2x2 picture, I suggest a little creative work with duct tape to keep some of those chins disguised or your chances for an interview are shot. As for interview day, let's hope Snuggies or floor-length ponchos become acceptable professional attire by then. Black Snuggie with a velcro tie? Maybe. You could always layer some Snuggies and Slankets and say it's a cultural thing.

Well usually I wear towels around and I can plaster back a couple chins with some nifty work with shipping tape and rubber bands (photoshop out later). I'm really good with photoshop too. I also have a really nice black and red beach towel that I think will work well for the interview because I might have it custom tailored. I really like the picture you posted, that looks like a good style for me, just in different colors. I have a couple snuggies I might use if the towel doesn't do well.

My only concern is I have a lot of weight on my arms and its sometimes hard to hold the tools because my fingers are really short, with not much space between them. I have good perceptual ability though. I enjoy donuts so I would imagine using them as apertures - seemed like a good idea to use something you enjoy to learn. Worked pretty well for me! You think I'll still be OK in school and that I can learn the skills needed to be a dentist?

Thanks for the help!

As long as you don't have any scores below a 17, you'll be fine.

17+ = good dentist
16 = bad dentist
15- = confused podiatrist

You're good. I had 12 hours too and I got in. You'll probably hear from so many people to try to take at least 16 hours a semester or something because dental schools like to see you handle a large course load. I've taken 15 hours twice in undergrad, and everything else below 15 hours. Focus on your grades more than the number of hours you take. It doesn't make sense to try to overload yourself to 18 hours and get a bad gpa for the semester rather than taking fewer hours and raising your gpa.

I had one semester with 12 hours and another with 13. Not gonna lie, I worried about it a little bit. By now, though, I've come to the realization that it probably doesn't matter at all so long as your grades are good! 😀

It's funny how we humans have the tendency to get freaked out, nit-pick the little things, and find the tiniest stuff to worry about.

Literally, after I took my DAT, I went home and started doing some research on scores... and saw how they expire after 2-3 years at some schools. I immediately started freaking out and thinking, "OMG! IF I HAVE TO REAPPLY, WILL MY SCORES EVEN STILL WORK?!" (I took my DAT a year early.)

So, yeah. I feel you. But don't worry!

Dental schools only accept overachievers, you obviously, are an underachiever. You fail, don't pass go, and do not proceed to dental school.

I have a somewhat related question. I skipped my calc discussion class one morning my spring semester of freshman year, is it even worth applying?

Woah skipping class? What sane person does that??? It's like you don't want to listen to a lecture on something you'll never use?

Admissions is gonna catch that. No go.
