Does it look bad if I barely work as an intern?

I've had over 4 years of continuous employment in pharmacy. Right now I work for a local chain.

The "company policy" is that I work on a weekly basis, but my store-level manager said I can literally work as much or as little as I want. So I've literally been working 1 shift every 2-3 months, aside from Christmas/spring break. I work as much as possible over the summer.

I live over an hour away from the store that I work at; it's just not really worth the money or time to me during the school year. I'm busy enough with school and rotations.

So anyways my question is... will this look terrible to my employer if I want to work there upon graduation? The staff at the store-level are great and seem to like me and the manager gave me a good performance review. Never been late or anything, but classmates who are working for the same chain are working weekly which, in my opinion, makes me look bad.

The only reason that I even care is because I'd like to get a job offer upon graduation. From what I understand they usually hire all of their interns. Should I drive down there every weekend, or maybe try to transfer to a closer store? Or just stay with my current situation (which I really like, lol).

I would verify with your district Supe since he or she has the final call, not your store manager.

The more you work the better it looks

You will be competing with people who work more than you when the time comes to get hired ... just remember that... but even to this point I've seen these idiot non pharmacist DM's (they have no business being DM of a pharmacy chain) hire clueless kids as graduate interns ... one wonders how these *****s got to DM level themselves ...

Yeah I thought about this but I don't really want to bring this to their attention either.

Like for real...we have a new grad intern in our district....can barely speak English...just graduated from one of the newer programs. I was like...wtf...how is anyone going to understand you? DM must had been high as fk when interviewing her or maybe it was a diversity hire...because she's from one of those exotic countries.

Honestly, I am just shocked at the qualify of new hires lately. It's been a pretty rough batch of graduates that we just hired...these standards are low....like really low now.
