I'm currently a third year ucla student right now majoring in pre-psychobio, but my science gpa is lower than a 3.0 and i fear that i won't be able to get into a pharmacy school in california. i was thinking of getting more experience through being a pharm tech and trying to get a letter of rec from a pharmacist, or should i consider doing a post bac?

Both would give you excellent experiences. I would pose that very same question to the pharmacy schools you are hoping to attend. It allows you to open up a line of communication and get the answer from the horse's mouth (at the same time).

Personally - I would do a Post bac and pursue pharmacy as a side job. I would avoid becoming stagnant - you want to be able to show that you have been spending your time wisely.

If you want to get involved in academics or government then, yes your school may matter.

However, if you want to work as a retail pharmacist, I would not worry about where you went to school.

You have to go to school to be a pharmacist? 😕

As one Californian to another - there is absolutely nothing special about CA schools with a couple exceptions.

There are schools that are more highly ranked, offer a wider variety of programs, and much cheaper outside the state.

I would follow the advice you were given but in the meanwhile think about expanding my options and applying out of State.

Maybe you could retake some of your science classes to raise your science gpa.

Good Luck

you're pyschobio... so your gpa should be starting to go on an upwards trend anyways! The upper division will help big time.
Since this isn't about applying to law or business school, there is pretty much no love from the pharm schools (or most other health professional schools) despite how rigorous the curriculum you are currently going through.

Hey, since you go to UCLA... how are you fitting in your Anatomy and Physiology requirements? It's offered only ONCE every summer and they're both during the SAME session 😱

I attend UCLA as well. I'm currently taking them at SMC..🙂

Yes it matters....and my school is the best ever!
