I got C+ in Organic I and B in Organic II which is pretty horrible. Does organic chem pretty much indicate my ability to tackle the materials in dental school? Thanks! Is anyone who had crappy organic chem grad actually end up doing pretty well in dental school ?

I think Ochem is really just a test of how hard you are willing to work for one class, as it is really just route memorization. D school seems to be a lot of work but not impossible like learning physics or some spatial science.

Actually, my overall science GPA is 78%. I managed to get all A+ to A-'s in physic I and II, Calculus I, II, and III. So that compensate my horrible grade in organic chem. Organic chem is considered a weeder course in my school since it is a pre-req for biochemistry program in my school. Many people gun for this program b/c the biochem department's advisor somehow convince the freshman that biochemistry is a GREAT program for dental/medical/law profession, which I later found out it wasn't the case👎

Just remember that your grade in Organic will most likely not predict whether you become a dentist. Simple as that. Do your best, fix it if you have to, and move on. Learn how you study, and tackle the basic sciences as strongly as possible. 😎

I was a chemistry major and ochem was my thing. I went to dental school and basically sucked it up in every class including biochem. So basically, ochem will not affect you in any way whatsoever in dental school. In fact, you won't use chemistry at all. Biology is probably a better indicator.

I don't even understand why this question is being posed. How does organic chemsitry have any correlation to histology, anatomy, pysiology, embryology, etc.

Sure, the same way your ability to scale & root plane pretty much indicates your ability to tackle all of dentistry.

(for the uncertain, this is just for illustrating how silly the logic is. Save your flames.)

No. Organic is hard, but it isn't everything.
