Does research account for SCI GPA?
Started by Valigator00
I am doing research for credit and I get graded on how well I perform each semester. Does this grade count for the science gpa on the application?
Mine did, coz the course title was PDBiology-494-academic reserach...
So I think if your's is calssified as Biology, it's definitely science course...
Right. I am a biochem major so title of mine is BCH 498. I was hoping that it counted because I will have 15 credits in it by the time I graduate. Thank you for the reply.

My cousin has 30 units of A+ (4.33 GPA ) research credit under "BIO199" which counts as BCP. Talk about inflation..lol
not fair! I hope aadsas removes those grades from your final gpa calculation cause at my undergrad, my research classes were only pass/fail.
15 credits of As can help you SOOOO much.
Thats dumb (p/f).
I do love those 4.3 A+'s
I don't think p/f is dumb at all.
It is dumb that they do not average it into your science GPA. That is what I meant to say 🙂

too bad a+ = a = 4.0 at ucla :\
Yeah, but for the aadsas gpa, your A+'s will be counted as 4.33
i had about 24 units of research count as As... 🙄
Imagine if they were A+s...
This is awesome news. Thank you for replies 😀

Not true... You are instructed to insert your grade exactly how it appears on your transcript. Since Universitys that do not use +/- grading systems don't have +/-s on the transcript you would be lying if you choose the A+ pulldown.. Also, if your school does not do +/- then those will not be represented on your transcript, so how will you remember ALL of your classes exact number grades and put them as +/- on AADSAS. You won't. I had this problem.
Plus a person whose school does not use this system, has no number levels set for +/- (ie. >97 A+) so you could create your own system (>95 A+) and boost yourself above the others.
Thank You.
@chund
you seem to be confused. We have a+ but its worth 4.0 when calculated into gpa at our university. try to pay attention better ok??
Thank You.
Ditto.
If your school does NOT use plus minus grading then you will not have a +/- on your transcript.
If you have been given an A+ or A- on your transcript then your school does do +/- grading, Hence giving you a 4.3 or 3.8 towards your AADSAS GPA instead of the 4.0.
Let me know if I'm wrong...
I didn't want ppl to think that their 100's would be counted as a 4.3 AADSAS if their school does not use +/-

As for this, I figured your meaning to be that a very high A (known to most as an A+) is written as an A on your transcript which would indicate NO plus/minus system..
If your equation is correct, then....A high A, is still an A on your transcript which equals a 4.0 which means you WILL NOT recieve the AADSAS 4.3 (A+=A=4.0) My QR wasn't great but i think i got this one. haha
If you have an A- is that still worth 4.0 or is that worth a 3.8? If not then UCLA is not plus minus and unless your transcript says A+ you will not receive the 4.3
True plus/minus grading systems are those that have seperate GPA's for each +/- grade. IE. A+=4.3 A=4.0 A-=3.8 etc..

At UCLA:
A+=4.0
A=4.0
A-=3.7
B+=3.3
B=3.0
B-=2.7
....... and so on
A+'s do show up on our transcripts. But when factored into our UCLA GPA, they do not count for extra. However, we are still nonetheless a +/- school.
BTW, as far as aadsas gpa goes, A-=3.7 (not 3.8). Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanks for that, that sucks UCLA won't give you higher than a 4.0 but will give you less... At least you'll get it on your AADSAS gpa. goodluck this round.
(yea i wasn't sure about the 3.7/3.8, i guessed. Like i said my school was simple and lazy, no +/-. Although I haven't taken the time to figure if it would have helped or hurt me?? We actually had a trial +/- period and the student govt voted to decline using it)

A lot of people at UCLA get the research 199 science credits 🙂 I think the limit is 45 units
