Congratulations on being invited to complete the Stanford School of Medicine Supplementary Application. Does this mean that they screen? Please someone clear up the confusion.

Someone called them, and why should they screen? It's easy money, I wouldn't screen either if I were a med school. I still don't understand why UC's screen, they could use the money too. It's sad how far the AMCAS system has fallen.
It may be because it costs more money and time to screen many more secondaries and read many many more letters of rec. Or they're not (as) greedy. Or they don't want to kill AMCAS. Or they're lazy and don't want to go through so many secondaries and letters of rec. etc etc

I'd say its either unwillingness to change or less greed than private schools. UC's could easily take 50 dollars from everyone, then use their screen to send rejections to people that wouldn't have made the screen.

Maybe because they have morals. The money from some extra secondaries is just a drop in the bucket for most schools (even for the greedy ones who send secondaries to everyone regardless of whether they think you have any chance in hell there). They might just be more considerate of the money and effort we have to put into those secondaries. Thumbs up to them and I think more schools should follow that principle.

It's fine if schools don't screen but the cost of applying can be a barrier to people who aren't dirt poor or whose families won't help them financially. The whole system needs to be overhauled so people working $13/ hour jobs and paying college loans up the wazoo can afford this.
