I got a letter from the Army today saying "Congratulations on your selection and entry into medical school and on starting down the path in the profession of medicine." Now, how do they know if I've been accepted somewhere if I don't know I've been accepted? I applied last year and didn't get anything telling me congratulations, just the same "We'll pay for your tuition". But I don't think they will say congratulations on getting in if I haven't gotten in, right? Has anyone ever recieved a letter like this in previous years, or anyone get one this year and know what it means?

It means military intelligence hasn't improved since they told us Saddam had WMDs.

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Ya killing me! I'm supposed to be hearing from Tufts in about a week, and so maybe they already made decisions and told the Army people about it? Right now, that's the only school I'm waiting for a decision regarding acceptance. And it's so close to the 15, maybe, just maybe, this is a good sign?

I got the same thing today and I know that I will be hearing on the 16th. So I am really hoping that means something good. :luck: :luck:

I hope so too :luck: My mom actually opened the letter thinking it was junk, and then calls me yelling "The army says you got in!" I'm thinking, it's probably one of those we'll pay your tuition deals, but then she read it, and then I saw it. So maybe the schools did already enter our names. Just have to wait and see I suppose. Although I'm actually thinking about calling that number and asking them how do they know I've been accepted, but I'm afraid then that I will be nonstop bombarded with those brochures and things.

I remember at my interview when the Financial Aid lady came she said that we all should consider the Army and such scholarships. The school I interviewed at made a decision over 2 weeks ago, so just MAYBE the financial aid office sends out the name of acceptees (sp?) to the Army and others who offer scholarships.

Less that one week till we find...PLEAAASE let us get in (I have been waiting four years....) :luck: :luck:

Sorry to be the dream killer, but I also got the same letter have not yet interviewed. So, there's no possible way I could have gotten accepted yet.

Damn 😡 That's not fair. Maybe you're getting an auto acceptance? The way the letter was phrased, they made it sound like we got accepted already. Oh well, here's still hoping to good luck for the 15/16. :luck:

I know, this is way to much drama. Maybe we should just call the Army

Yeah, I remember there was a post about this last year, and the consensus was that it was a cruel Army joke, especially to those who never did get any Med school acceptances.

I tried calling the number on the letter, but it's just them saying leave your name and address and we'll send you a brochure. Maybe during business hours, they might have somebody answer. What about calling the school itself? My friend was also telling me you could ask the pre med office at your school because they have a site where they can see the decisions made. But I don't know if they can access it before Oct. 15.

shellyr33, are you sure it was the same exact letter? I know last year I got a letter saying congratulations on your decision to apply to medical school, but nothing like this. I just talked to my friend who is a first year, and he said he got a letter like this only after he got accepted into his first school.

"Congratulations on your selection and entry into medical school and on starting down the path in the profession of medicine."

I am wondering the same thing musiclink, it does seem as they DO know something. I tried calling my pre-med office, but no one was available. I can't wait 6 more days 🙁

But look at the wording - even if they did know you were accepted they still worded it wrong.

This is saying congratulations on being selected and entering medical school - you have not yet entered medical school. I think the army is just ******ed and worded a brochure terribly.

Well, if you look at it like that, then entering is the process of entering (I know that did't make sense). So you are in the process of entering med school, which is true. So you will be entering soon.

Ok, this might all be BS, I was never good at grammer, even worse at trying to make it make sense to other people. This is nuts. Why oh why did they have to send us these letters?

You guys should have trashed them before reading the first sentence - then you wouldn't have this problem. But seriously you guys will do fine and I'm sure you'll get in.

But I really doubt the army has any information on whether or not you've been accepted at this point, giving out a list like that would take up time and effort on the medical schools behalf. Then it would take up the armies time to figure out which people to send "accepted" brochures to and which to send "applicant" brochures to.

Its completely illogical that they would know and would send you a brochure based on that.

Yea the army is looking for doctors and have seen you applied to med school. Thats why they sent you that letter, theres posters all over my college saying join the Army doctor program.

I got one of those letters last year, and I had withdrawn my application pre-secondary.

I logged on tonight just to see what was going on with this letter I got in the mail today. The wording does indeed make it sound like they found out you were accepted somewhere, however I found out that I was not accepted EDP last week. Judging by the number of people that have received this letter in various stages of the application I think we can call this myth "busted".

My letter goes like this:

Dear shelly,

Congratulations on your selection and entry into medical school and on starting down the path in the profession of medicine. I know you have worked hard to achieve this goal. I am writing to encourage you to consider joining us in the Medical Department of the United States Army as part of that path.

yadda yadda
