Does the dean's office know which programs you are applying to? Do they have to individually attach the documents to each program that you designate?

No, they don't need to individually attach the documents. They upload the Dean's letter and your letters of recommendation. You designate which letters are sent to whom (with exception to the Dean's letter, which is sent to every program where you apply).

Yes, they can see a list of all programs where you apply.

WTF? So does this mean they get a login to your ERAS and they can see everything about your application? Or does ERAS just mail a list of programs to all the deans?

This is wrong. Deans should not have access to that info. Its none of my dean's damn business where I am applying or what kind of specialties I'm applying to

I dont like that!!!!! I dont want my dean to know where the hell im applying!!

why is this such a big problem, exactly? Not trying to be a pain, just wondering...

What Dean's Offices see:
Where you apply
Your LORs, Dean's Letter, transcript, photo

What Dean's Offices don't see:
Board scores
Personal statements

Also, you have the option through ERAS of letting your Dean's Office have access to your Common Application Form.

Why on earth would you give access to your CAF?

So that, during Scramble, the Dean's Office can print it off for you and fax it, with your supporting docs, into open programs.

Deans dont NEED to know this information, so they shouldnt have access to it.

I mean WTF if you guys are applying for a job do you give your old boss your job application and a list of all the places you are going to apply to? Of course not, because they dont NEED that info.

As for the scramble, the med student should be faxing/sending their application materials to all the programs. Then if hte programs desire, they can call the dean and ask them about you.

But otherwise the dean does not need all this application info.

And yes, I should be allowed to keep my match location secret from my dean/school if I so desire.

Seriously, why is it that this info is given out to the school? They dont need it, I should be able to keep it secret if I want.

At my school the dean's office knew our board scores before we did...

I suspect the reason they want it is so they can compile stats about where their students match for recruitment/accreditation purposes.

Hi there,
The Match results are sent to the Deans 30 minutes before they are sent to you. You have NO control over this process.

njbmd 🙂

Actually, our dean knew our match results the day before we did - not just 30 minutes.

And all I have to say to the above is you must really hate your dean?? Your dean's office should be the ones helping you get into whichever program you desire and I can't imagine a place where you wouldn't want them to know. But I guess each school is different.

No, Dean's Offices don't *NEED* that info.

However, another reason why the list of programs you apply to is available is so that, in the event of a processing error with your application, the Dean's Office can contact the program directly and fax your supporting documents to the program with the processing error.

Also, your analogy is flawed. No boss of mine would fax over my professional portfolio, resume, and cover letter to a potential new boss. Or re-fax it in the event that it wasn't received. Or help me find a new job in a pinch if I wasn't hired. Or keep my application materials on file in the event that I decide to leave jobs again. So there's that.

If you'd really like to keep your employment information private, perhaps you should try to sign outside of the match or participate in the Scramble.

Furthermore, you are in school. Last time I checked, you didn't pay your former employer for the joy of working at their institution.
