Does UPenn ever reject people after an interview?

I was wondering if UPenn reject people who already interviewed.

I know they "wait-list" people, but do they ever reject right away?

And what are the general chances of acceptance after interview at Penn?

The reason why I am asking is that I'm not quite satisfied with my performance during the interview and keep banging my heads with regrets (Cand't Sleep!!).

It depends on when you had your interview. The earlier it is, the higher the chance. From what I remember statistically.. last year Penn interviewed 350 out of 2200 and of those 350, 120 matriculate.. so that means they probably accept more than their class. If they hypothetically accepted 180 students, then you would have approximately a 50% chance of getting in.

I just had it on the first week of December which is apparently a post-Dec interview.

But the thing is that I could not find anyone who had an interview end up with a rejection if it wasn't late Feb or March interviews.

Ahh I was told to at least wait till Jan and this is a pure torture.. :scared:

I interviewed the first day of interviews, and I haven't been accepted yet. I think I screwed up the interview, but life goes on.

Have you talked to the admission? I know some people call to ask their status especially when the first deposit day for other schools are coming up shortly.

I'll probably do that, I remember Ms. Cacas saying that she's going to be on vacation for the first couple of weeks of Dec. so I'll give them a call in a few days when she gets back I think. I'm not made of money and those deposits are expensive, haha.

Yes. She was away when I had the interview. But Dr.Sheridan said she will also be on vacation soon but I am not sure when. So, if it is still under consideration when you call, don't worry too much.

Do you mind if I ask what about your performance you didn't think went well?

Even though I had several interviews prior to that I was so nervous:scared: since it has been my top school for so long. And I think I answered some of the questions not fully enough and I am worrying if the interviewers misinterpreted them.

On top of that, I saw numerous posts saying how your GPA&DAT don't really matter once you gain an interview and the interview is all the decision factor from that point onward.

Even though it sounds abit arrogant but I do have relatively nice stats. I worked hard to gain the numbers that I have right now and it is just devastating to think that my years of effort can get tarnished by mere 30min of interview. I seriously could have done ALOT BETTER! Also I am a Canadian student, so it is actually tighter competition on my end.

That is exactly how I am feeling. Don't lose hope though, I think most people who interview there get accepted at some point.

Would you mind posting or PMing me your stats & etc.? I'm a Canadian student as well and am hoping to get an interview from Penn. 🙂 Cheers.
