Apologize in advance for being mega-lurker, almost non-existent poster....but, i have a question and need some help.

I'm at a new program (we are in our third year), and there is some discussion about whether or not our program should send our seniors to ACEP.
Currently, they send interns to SAEM (fully paid, one shift reduction); but there isn't a plan yet for ACEP.

Does your program send you to ACEP or SAEM?
both?
do they pay for it, or do you have to pay out of pocket (or use your GME money)?
do you get a shift reduction?

I really appreciate any feedback -- it would be really helpful to know what the norm is for other programs that have been around longer than we have.

ACEP - Yes
chiefs only to SAEM at end of 2nd yr
We get 1k for all expenses.
we get a 1-2 shift reduction depending on staffing needs.

Carolinas:
Year 1: Wilderness Med Conference (Montana)
Year 2: SAEM
Year 3: ACEP
Everyone usually gets to go to everything except for the third year, when we draw straws to see who goes, those that remain can choose a different conference to go to.

All of our conference costs are paid for by the hospital (we pay, they reimburse), up to $1900 per year.

No shift reduction.

All seniors are sent to ACEP. Select 2nd years are promoted for a week to staff the department. Flight, hotel, registration are reimbursed by the department.

At the program that I just graduated from, we were not sent to any conferences. I did go to ACEP my senior year there, but no reduction in shifts, no pay to go there, nothing. After going there I had a long discussion with the director, but I guess we were better at slave labor than "going to some random conference." glad I am done!!

Residency:
if presenting, all conference covered.
750/year stipend

Where I am now:
Interns: SAEM
Seniors: ACEP
