Hi everyone.

I applied to dental school but didn't get in this past cycle. I did get accepted into graduate school and I am getting a masters and will be applying again.

However, one of my pre-req classes from undergrad (first semester of gen bio from my freshmen year), I got a D+... the other classes were all C or better. My advisor at the time told me to not retake and just do better from then on. I have gotten better grades, As and Bs, in future bio classes. Will that D+ automatically disqualify me from acceptance into many dental schools when I reapply?

Since I have already graduated and am doing a Masters, I wasn't sure if I should bother to retake the class and I don't know if me getting a Masters will affect that in some way - I'm very worried! Any advice? Thank you so much!!

edit:
overall GPA: 3.18
science GPA: 2.96
Graduated undergrad with Biology Major

BTW what is your undergrad ogpa and sgpa? That is kinda important. If those are decently high like your paragraph leads on I'm not sure why you would do a master's.

Regardless, it won't disqualify you; are you a biology major or just did pre-reqs and that's it? If it is the latter I'd retake it cause that will factor more into your sgpa. If you have the time I'd retake it even if you are a biology or biochem major. If not just keep acing your master's courses and you should be fine.

Nope.

The worst thing that can happen is the school accepting you will stipulate on the acceptance letter that you need to retake that bio class and earn at least a C before matriculating into their class.

Hi SoulPower! Thanks for your response!
My overall is 3.18 and my BCP is 2.96 - not that great at all, sorry if I made it sound like it was great. My better grades came during my junior/senior year while my freshmen/sophomore year were a disaster. I mentioned I have gotten A/B in higher division biology classes because I heard some colleges will forgive a C-/D in a pre-req if one has taken a higher division class and have gotten an A - not sure how many schools that applies to though.

and yep, I am a Biology Major.
It is possible though to go back and retake the class if I am a grad student? (my undergrad and grad school is the same school).

It may depend on the school, but I believe that you will be allowed to retake the class, even as a grad student.

Call the schools to make sure. Always try to communicate with the schools.

Good luck. Hopefully the masters degree will bump up that GPA
