Hello everyone,

I'm a non-trad that is currently repairing GPA/finishing undergrad with around 3 years left.

After doing research, I've discovered that volunteer hours and even shadowing can be positive factors on a medical school application.

I work at a hospital pharmacy as a tech, and I've started exploring opportunities to dive into these experiences.

On my off days I volunteer as a medical assistant, which is basically just running around doing errands for everyone... And today I flattered an internist enough to let me shadow him for some time this weekend.

This is all good, and I'm excited to become more immersed in the medical field, but I'm wondering, is it too soon for me to be doing these activities?

Should I wait until I have <2 years left of undergrad to start doing volunteer/shadowing , so that they will be more recent on applications? Would this also make them be perceived as more relevant?

... Or am I just over thinking things?

Thank you very much,

-Ron

No! It's not too soon at all, this is the perfect time to start those activities. Continue them throughout the next three years, adcoms want to see dedication.

Man, by all means, if you can handle it, go for it! Keep checking these boxes! You'll have so much to talk about at interviews!!

As long as you can handle your academic work, you can do as much extracurriculars, undergraduate research, etc. as you want.
