every sea creature i've eaten has grossed me out. all kinds of fish, froglegs (they sort of count), shrimp, kalamari, crab. so it isn't for lack of trying... they're just all icky and fishy tasting. i'll stick to my land animals. plus lobster is too expensive for me to just go and try if i probably won't like it. if i'm ever around anyone who is eating some, i'll try a bit of theirs. but the opportunity has yet to arise.

I honestly think something is wrong with you. 😉

Kidding... hell, more for me!

Thread takeaway message: If ladies shower daily in med school and wear something more flattering than sweat pants, they will be coveted by their male peers.

I always thought there was more to it than that 🙄

There are guys everywhere with very low standards. You really don't want one whose sole criterion is what you just outlined.

Yeah, if I was XY, I wouldn't date guys with such low standards. There has to be some sort of harsh grading scale...involving numbers..and letter grades...and maybe love.

Don't get me wrong; showering and hygiene are essential to catch my eye; but if there isn't anything else on offer, I'll pass. I'm not settling for anything less than the best.

Yeah, Japanese girls tend to be pretty narcissistic. Too bad all that work doesn't do a thing for me.
That's not a blatant stereotype at all, no.:lame:

On that note- how do you interpret staring from attractive female girls- followed by a smile?
Contacts out of focus, followed by embarrassed realization.:meanie:

A man who doesn't worry about dressing up and has long, curly sex hair. sounds wonderful. 😛

 this thread is awesome.

p.s. appbuddy, I'm so glad you're dating a rocket scientist (or, were, til MCATguy came along haha). And I really hope we go to school together, because you're awesome and I wanna be friends.

Unfortunately appbuddy, Rocket Man has been put to the way side for MCAT Guy. SDN relationships need to be taken more seriously than real-life ones afterall.
And also, even if we don't go to school together, we will one day be physician colleagues and have to be friends 😀

See, girls are like cockroaches. You squish one and three more that look just like it show up in five minutes. From my experience, girls who get dressed up for class are all kinds of crazy. Show me a girl who comes to class in sweats but cleans up nice on the weekends AND drinks beer and I will show you a girl worth a roll in the hay.

Oh and if you long for those "ravishing" girls, ignore them. Plain and simple. Engage and then ignore them. It's like crack to them.

that's just about my same response when you said something was wrong with me for not liking seafood 😛. more for you indeed. i'll trade you a lobster for some ribs!

You think I wouldn't want the ribs, too? I am a carnivore to the core (hey, that rhymed!).

it's only fair that if you eat all the seafood i could've eaten, that i get all the landfood you could've eaten 😀

mm, meat. I was out for my birthday a couple weeks ago and got some deeeelicious short ribs. I'm pretty sure life wouldn't be worth living without beef. and bacon.

Also, happy birthday next Tuesday, Geekchick! :hardy:

Those are all the women who won't actually be going to med school 🙄

^I would hope not, but hey, that's just my personal conviction!^

I find this is true of all guys and girls, excluding the insecure kind, unless you yourself are not at least semi-hot.

Also, ravishing girls are usually the insane kind, I agree.

Cata's got an interesting theory... gunning through eye-candy.

If I was going to class at 8AM in undergrad I'd probably be in pajama pants, a v-neck shirt, and sneakers, and my hair would be in a low ponytail and I MAY have had time to slap on some lip gloss and mascara while I waited in line at the drive-thru for my coffee.

I really loathe people like you, men and women alike. Have some self-respect. I have 8am classes. I get up at 6am every day, shower and shave every day, and wear a collared shirt/tie/slacks every day. Who wants to look at a bunch of schmucks in sweat pants?

Seriously? Who cares? Not everyone likes dolled up guys or girls, and the way someone dresses is not a reason to "loathe" them. If I had the option, the cute girl with clean but slightly messy hair and a cute smile wins over the hot chick every time. Chill.

Why do people feel the need to dress up for class, anyway?

I'm not talking about looking "hot" or wanting to look at "hot" girls. I'm happily married. I'm talking about dressing like a self-respecting adult who is in public.

I loathe people who go out in public looking like garbage because it is unpleasant to look at them, just like it's unpleasant to smell a dirty person.

Cool your jets, man. So what if they don't take pride in their looks? It's hardly your business. You don't have to look at them when you're out on the town, impeccably dressed with your nose thrown sky high.

Dressing like a self-respecting adult doesn't make you a self-respecting adult any more than wearing a white jacket makes you a doctor. In fact, people who are extremely insecure about something are the ones who tend to lash out against those things the most. So what really bothers you? That they don't dress like "self-respecting adults" or that you might not be fooling everyone into thinking you have self-respect?

Because you're sure not fooling me.

Endolas, I see where you're coming from. It's nice to put some thought and time into how you present yourself, even just for class. But I think that there's an unwritten rule in college that you can look slightly like a bum to class and it's ok because hey, you were probably studying/partying/doing god knows what all night long.

Just my two cents.

<-- This gif is hilarious because 1, I'm mocking the fact that you "loathe" me (my e-feelings, oh noez!), and 2, you are seriously channeling Regina George right now. I already broke the "only jeans or track pants on Friday" rule, am I only allowed to wear my hair up one day a week, too?

🙄

Excuuuuuuuuse me for not getting myself all tarted up for an early morning science class. I spent the previous 12 years of my education in Catholic school uniforms, and I'll likely spend the rest of my weekdays until retirement in business casual, so I slummed it in college. And if you showed up in a class at my school in a tie and business, you'd look like a giant tool. No one regularly wore anything fancier than jeans or khakis. Oh, and by the way, I was a theatre major. I usually had some kind of movement class as well so I wore stuff that was appropriate for that.

And sweat pants, a t-shirt and minimal make-up = looking like "garbage" that has no self-respect? Okay, then...

Your replies in this post were unpleasant to read.

Go to a school in the South. And I'm not even just talking about the partying schools. UNC girls are talented AND appreciate pearls and a sun dress to class.

you guys are missing the fact that endolas is a non-trad.. likely returned to school after being part of the workforce where professionalism (=dress) is important and denotes respect. it might be old-fashioned but you should get used to the fact that how you dress is looked on by a lot of non-undergrad student folk as a measure of self-respect and respect for ur seniors and your work/school environment. i bet a lot of old school profs and others see the unprofessional dress and manner of many students to be disrespectful. of course thats not true for all especially in undergrad. endolas of course fails to understand that these things dont matter to college students nor do they really make or break you.. he's forgotten what its like (or never knew whats its like) to live on campus and roll out of bed for class and do yourthing for 4 or so years..

on the other hand, its good to dress up sometimes to get in the habit as future docs, or just to show some of your old-fashioned profs that youre serious about school. not to be showing off your body and be eyecatching though

also i want to add that my medical school is chock full of beautiful girls
its almost lowering my self-esteem

!!!!!!!!!!

What?!? Where is this heavenly abode? Georgetown U.? Because this thread was beginning to convince me that there are no good looking people in medical school. Which is sad, because I was hoping to find a spouse once I got in. Any pics ?? haha

BTW: Are you an arabic female? From my limited experience, they tend to be quite gorgeous, so I don't know what you're so worried about!

I have tons of non-trads that are over 40 years old in my classes, and none of them bother to dress up. No offense, but that's not the best possible excuse for him, unless he's pushing 70.

However, I do agree that it's not a bad habit to get in to--just not for undergrad classes. Dress up for interviews, work, etc., but getting "dolled up" for classes is overdressing, imo. Looking clean and nice, however, is still a must in public, but few don't choose to do this.

When I returned to university five years ago after working in a business casual office for a decade by then, I actually made a point of dressing down somewhat. The only people I see dressed up on campus are professors/administrators, business majors posing in suits, and the aforementioned "dolled up" women.

So I go as casual as I can get away with for work, which is usually a non-t-shirt top and pants/trousers (not jeans) and black leather shoes. I didn't want to be "that guy" wearing slacks and a cardigan to class surrounded by sweatpants and hoodies and UGGs.
