anyone hear from downstate recently? is it really taking 10 weeks for a response?

Does anyone know anything about the Downstate waitlist. Interestingly enough it seems that people have either been accepted or rejected. Is this because they don't have a waitlist or does it mean that if you don't hear from them then you're automatically placed on the waitlist?

Yes...they have one post-interview. i'm sitting on it. I heard they are reviewing A LOT OF APPS and 10-12 wks is not unusual to wait.

I interviewed Feb 9 and received the same email.

You can relax, I interviewed a few weeks before you in January and I still have not heard anything except for the email saying that Downstate is backlogged. Hope this helps with the process of waiting. Good luck.

Interviewed 10/17. Heard back the week after thanksgiving via snail mail. I heard that they became really backlogged around mid november so dont consider my 6 wks. standard. Good Luck!

heyy, I got my acceptance (interviewed on jan 25th) on thursday, april 6. However, the letter was dated mar 30th and it was sent to my house in NY ... 😀 ..

I think we may hear today. They've been really silent lately, they may send out all the decisions they've accumulated.

that would be REALLY nice and i hope you are right but shaholin interviewed on a wednesday and heard on a thuresday. we also interviewed on a wednesday so my bet would be that we will hear this thursday. the committee probably meets on certain days during the week, so unless they met this past friday, i don't think we will hear today. plus, she heard last week, so they haven't been so silent. again, i hope i'm wrong!! AHHHH!!!!

Haha, I wish i got into NU .. I would love to stay in chicago. They, unfortunately, rejected me (I goto NU for undergrad) ... Yeah the letter was dated March 30th but arrived at my house in NY on april 6th (I live around 60 miles north of the city) .. I'm waiting on temple (and mayyyyyybe nymc) .. Temple is my top choice then downstate over NYMC (if i get in)..

the anticipation is KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! someone else on sdn got in after 9 weeks, he also interviewed on a wednesday and found out on a tuesday (yes, i am crazy). i think my earlier theory doesn't hold much weight. AHHHHHH!!!!

so are you not a ny state resident then? because that's really what's stopping me from choosing jeff. i feel like it is a waste of $ (compared to downstate's lower in-state tuition).

if i get in i'll be choosing between the two as well (i'm a ny resident). part of me is hoping to be waitlisted at downstate so i don't have to make the decision so soon. that's going to be a tough one. i want to specalize and a lot of docs seem to think jeff is better. i don't know....

Yeah, my interviewer enjoyed ****ing with me. At one point he told me that he didn't like 2 of my answers and to try again. He also told me at one point that i was digging myself into a grave. I got in later. I guess I kept my cool and that was the point. Don't worry, and good luck.

If you look at Downstates match lists it does not appear one would have any problem in "specializing" in any field, however ultimately you have to pick the school you feel most comfortable with.

My interviewer was really tough on me as well. He kept digging more deeply into my reasons for doing certain activities. I didn't want to play the gay card at Downstate but I ended up having to better justify my AIDS Outreach activies. I guess it worked 🙂

I interviewed back on december 5th and my acceptance letter arrived at the end of January. I withdrew a week later. Hopefully that opens up a spot for those of you that want to go to the school.

Wow guys didn't know Downstate gave uber stress interviews. I had a pretty relaxed interview back in September as did the other interviewers that day. Maybe because it was the start of interview season and everyone was still happy. Best of luck to you all! I withdrew from Downstate so I hope one of you guys get the spot!

It'll be 9 weeks for me this thursday - i interviewed Feb 9. Still waiting.

You pretty much described the way my interview went. I started crying 10 minutes into it, and for the next 1.5 hours he pushed my buttons - the right ones. I just tried to gain control over myself, which was occasionally successful. The interview had nothing to do with Downstate or medicine, I was psychoanalyzed. Don't know what to think of it, I really wanted to go to Downstate, and it's still my first choice.

i emailed the adcom yesturday and got an email from them this morning saying that letters were sent out on monday and we should be getting something any day. if it doesn't come by next tuesday, i'll call them.
