Just called the admissions office. I interviewed Feb 8th (11wks ago today). They still have yet to make a decision!!! Is that good or bad? I don't even know......

I know it's frustrating but I wouldn't read anything into it. They seem to be really backlogged. Hopefully you'll get some good news within the next week or so.

ugh. i know what you are going through.

when i called the admissions office when i was waiting for my letter they told me a letter was sent out on monday april 10th but when i got the letter, the actual letter was dated april 11th (i didn't look at the post mark). point being, don't go by the day they told you. it was probably sent out already but i would wait until monday or tuesday. if you don't get anything by then i would call again.

Just checked my mail, 11wks, 3 days and nothing. I had a big brown envelope in mailbox turned back....... My heart started beating a million times a min......... Then I saw it was only an envelope from the Department of Sanitation with stickers.....Arrrrrghhh.........

Well Ziggy inteviewed like two weeks before me, but he only got the letter yesterday so it looks like it will takes around 12 weeks.

Got the "HOLD" letter today. Interview Feb 8th, Letter dated May 1st, postmarked May 3rd, Received May 6th.

Any idea how much movement occurs off this list?

There seemed to be a good amount of movement of the hold list last year (via the sdn thread last year, which I think I've posted here sometime earlier). It's a good thread to read though to give you an idea of the time table and all.

I don't think they reveal this this year, at least I haven't heard of anyone getting anything other than plain hold. There have been two lists in the past few years.

I had my most pleasant interview of the entire process at downstate. His name was Dr. Lutwick and we talked for almost two hours, very relaxed, talked alot interesting medical cases and stuff. In contrast other people I interviewed with didn't all have great interviews, totally luck of the draw.

i had a great interview experience. my interviewer was actually into some really interesting research (about sex 😀 ) so we talked about that almost the entire time.

i've been watching this list for awhile now... i also interviewed march 14 and don't expect to hear for a few more weeks. the suspense is killing me! i really loved downstate and can't imagine a better setting, since i would like to work in urban healthcare.

my interview was good -- we went over my complete biography, in chronological order. it lasted awhile and definitely wasn't frightening (although after reading the interview reviews on this site i was nervous about ending up in a stress interview situation). but i know of several people who've been accepted there after bad interviews...

yea i had an awful interview..lasted only 20min..and the guy didn't seem to care at all about what I was saying..and when I asked him questions about the school he said he doesn't really keep up to date with the medical school..i don't know why he is an interviewer but nevertheless i got in..so really even if you have an awful one it apparently doesn't mean anything...but i have to admit my interview really turned me off to school if that is how faculty is..i don't know I'm still confused..

I think Downstate is one of those schools where interviews make little impact. It seems that they already know what they are going to do when they send the invite. They probably only reject people whose interview went particularly bad, accept those they intended to accept before the interview, and hold the rest.

I called Downstate today... I told them its been more then 10 weeks and I just wanted to see when I should hear. They told me an update on my status was sent out on the 11th but a final decision hasn't been made yet. Do you guys think this means I got waitlisted? I asked the women on the phone and she said not necessarily, but what else could that mean??

Possibly that they need more time. A few months ago they e-mailed some people who interviewed to let them know that they are behind. I don't know why they would snail this but it's one possibility.

Likely means that your application is on "hold." They put my app on this status and after doing some research on older threads it turns out it just means that they need more time to reach a decision and you are still able to go into any of the three categories (accept, reject, waitlist) from 'hold.' In fact, it is supposedly better than waitlist because you can still go from 'hold' to straight accept without waiting for the waitlist to move.
'Hold' could last through the end of June potentially.
