Hi all,
I haven’t seen a thread yet for the 2022-23 physical therapy application cycle, so I thought that I would begin one. I know that it doesn’t begin until July, but I wanted to get the ball rolling early. We can use this thread to post our application stats, our questions, schools we are looking into, and updates on later on about acceptances, waitlists, or rejections.
This is my first cycle applying, so I want to gain as much information as I can :) I'm not completely sure how many schools to apply to- I was planning on 7-9, but I know that applications are expensive. However, I want to do my best to ensure I get in this cycle so I don't want to put my eggs in one basket. If anyone was any insight, please reply

I also wanted to apply to a ton to ensure I wouldn’t have to wait a year, but the cost definitely adds up pretty quickly! I applied to 18 and it cost around $2500. If you’re a competitive applicant I’d definitely narrow it down, but if you don’t feel very confident then spending the extra money is worth casting a wider net in my opinion

I had about 15 schools on my list this time last year, but narrowed it down to 6 when I actually applied! I had a pretty average application so I was worried I wouldn’t get in anywhere but I ended up getting into all of my schools :) choose your schools wisely and really asses your own application to make sure you’re applying to the right schools for your stats, budget, and lifestyle. I knocked 4 off my list because I couldn’t picture myself paying that much in tuition if I did get in, so I didn’t even bother applying to them!

I would def keep it somewhere between 5-8! Especially because a lot have supplemental applications and it adds up so quick. I applied to 6 with average stats and got into 3 so far :) apply to a range of competitiveness!

Also start thinking about letters of recommendation now and think about who you want to ask! A solid letter of rec will take you far!!

I'm applying for the 2022-23 cycle too.
major: kinesiology
cumulative gpa: 3.9
prerequisite gpa: 3.85
GRE: 152Q, 154V, 4.0 AW
~200 observation hours in four settings
extracurriculars: campus job, TA, research
applying to: UMiami, UW Madison, WashU, CSUN, CSLUB, SDSU, Fresno State

my gre is below the averages so i'm wondering if i should retake it

I have your exact gre and a lower gpa and got 0 rejections. You are completely fine

According to PTCAS, the average applicant applies to 5.5, and I applied to 8, but I've worked with applicants who've applied to anywhere from 1-23 schools.

I'm applying for the first time this coming cycle. I am not taking the GRE until May. Does this seem like it will be too late to apply this cycle? Also, my cume GPA is far lower than my pre-req GPA; has anyone gotten in with stats like this?
cGPA: 3.41
pGPA: 4.0
GRE: 161V, 154Q, 4.0AWA
over 1k hours in 3 different settings

Your stats look awesome! May is perfect because you still have time to retake if you need. I didn’t take mine til the end of July and was fine :)!

May is perfect! I took mine at the end of May. I figured if I didn’t do well enough I could take it again in July or August. I only needed once thankfully. I started my applications in July and was finished and applied by mid August

I think I took the GRE in april and still had plenty of time, I think May is perfectly fine as well.
I had a 3.3 cGPA and a 3.1-3.3 pGPA. Got into half the schools I tried for, 2 of which being public schools. There's much more to your apps than just those numbers, but from that you're fine!

Average person applies to 5.5? Lol please, don’t be like me and only apply to 1 school 2 cycles in a row! Lol

I know what my top 3 schools are... but I have no clue where to even begin with choosing other schools. So many of them just seem to be out of reach financially 🥺 if someone has any suggestions for narrowing down schools by price, please please I would love to hear them 😭

Basically, I have unbeatable rent right now and I would like to do a hybrid so that I can keep my cost of living as low as possible. I have heard from every PT out there that I should go to the cheapest school possible. Also, I feel prepared to do an accelerated program since I will already have my MS of Kinesiology by the time I begin the program.

Have you looked into the PTA-DPT bridge programs?

there are many bridge programs. And i think some of them are 2 years instead of going through the full 3 years

Have you looked into the PTA-DPT bridge programs?
Its not worth it. It looks like Finley is still 3 years and over 100 credits (just like a normal DPT program). The main difference is that it is all crammed online over the weekend during the didactic portion. I will still be able to work (only 20 hours a week), but Finley is still expensive so it off sets anyway. I would still keep my PRN weekend job, which I cannot due with a bridge program. You still have to find time for a couple of flights all the way out to Ohio. Worst off, half my prerequisites will not fall into their "7 year age limit"

cGPA: 3.49
pGPA: 3.31-3.39
GRE: 148/152/4
LOR: 2 professor, 1 work supervisor, 1 PT
Observation hours: outpatient 200 + home health~19hrs.

Applying to:
FPU, Gannon University, Long Island University, Touro, UNE, USA, Emory & Henry College, Wheeling University

Interviews: AT Still, Midwestern, Creighton
Accepted: Creighton, University of St. Augustine

NAU is one of my top choices right now, so I'm curious to hear if anyone else is applying there/has heard anything from them yet. Also curious to see if anyone else has been accepted to Creighton or USAHS in Austin! Good luck to everyone during their application process
When did you apply to Midwestern and Creighton? How long did it take you to hear back from them? Thanks!

Hi, I have an interview at CSI in November. Would you mind sharing how the interview went and what kind of questions I should expect to answer? Also, when did you interview at these schools? Did you hear back yet? Thank you.
Hey there. My interview with CSI is coming up early next week. I'll DM you about how it goes. My LIU interview is in early November, so I can't comment on that. As far as the the Touro College interview goes, from what I know it is really just the Kira Assessment they make you do soon after you submit an application.

I'm gonna update my earlier post to make it clear that my interviews are upcoming and not yet complete

I would appreciate that. Thank you.

Had my CSI interview last Friday and it was tough. Be prepared to be pressed in a stressful environment. Some people get an easy interviewer but mine was tricky. Got my acceptance yesterday.

Congratulations on your acceptance!
If you don't mind sharing, how was it tough? What were some of the questions?
In my e-mail it said I will have two professors who will interview me.
Also, I read in some older threads that you have to write an essay. Did you write an essay as well?
Anything you feel comfortable sharing would be appreciated.

I applied late August and heard back within a week for invitations to interview. Hope that helps!

good luck with your applications! I am a direct admit to FPU's DPT program, but I am trying to look for options closer to where I live

I just got my acceptance letter to New York Medical College! So thankful!
I am still interviewing though. They are asking for a deposit to secure a spot and if I wait too long after the spots are filled, I will be on the waitlist.
If I make a deposit, does it just mean that I am reserving a spot? It doesn't mean I am committing right? Does anyone know? This is my first time applying and my first acceptance so I am not too familiar.

I just got my first acceptance to Tufts in Boston too!! Congratulations!!! That is so exciting. Yes, when you make a deposit you are reserving a spot. If you happen to get in somewhere else and want to go there instead you would lose that deposit.

Congratulations to you too! Thanks for clarifying.

Haven’t heard back from them yet but one of their current students called me a couple weeks ago. Did you get that call also?

Updates:
Applying to: UNLV, UNM, CSU Sac, NAU, Hawaii Pacific (hybrid), Bowling Green State (hybrid), FPU (hybrid), RMUoHP
Interviews: UNLV (11/4), UNM (1/7), RMUoHP (10/17). Hybrids did not hold interviews
Acceptances: UNLV (11/5), RMUoHP (11/2), all three hybrid programs.

After talking with more PTs at my work, I have decided to not go the hybrid route and UNLV is currently my top choice!

BTW, overall PTCAS GPA turned out to be a 3.42, GRE was a 157V/161Q/4.5W, and observation hours at ~1000 total in 5 settings.
