so im having a little fun and enjoying the debate....im not trying to be hostile. It's just fishing. I want to know what the other side thinks, and the more i watch CNN, the more hatred i see. The more they tried to convince me that Trump was this or that, the more they pushed me away. Remember i used to be a Democrat. Now i listen to my father. Agree with the main problem of two sides now more polarized than ever before and the biggest casualty is the the faith and trust people used to have in the large media institutions is gone.
I’m a political moderate. I see both sides. I vote for all parties. I didn’t vote for trump. He does a lot of crazy things I can’t respect. But, I also can’t respect the media to now report any of it in a principled fashion anymore.
Everything the media does is a hit piece on everything that Trump, and to a lesser degree, everything any Republican does.
The major media has no shame in the fact they no longer uphold journalistic standards of the previous century.
I stopped watching Jimmy Kimmel and Colbert, I no longer check CNN. And most painfully, I recently stopped my New York Times subscription because I’m tired of constant unedited hate pieces on Republicans (or moderate Democrats).
Also stopped my NYT subscription because over the past year NYT journalists can’t think or analyze anything anymore, because now according to the (previously respected NYT), 95% of everything that happens in life is now solely because you’re a woman or a minority. Apparently, there is no free will or self determination anymore in life according to the NYT.
They play the race or sex card on absolutely every article on every subject , which is pathetic and intellectually lazy. I could write for the NYT now. Just say one of two things in every article, and now you’re a journalist!
So I now ignore and also no longer respect virtually all journalists........and I’m not alone in this which is bad for society.

Well stated! I did the same thing RE NYT and Wash Post. I read them religiously for many years but I really just can't tolerate them any more. It's a shame. I found the local stations/news do the best job nowadays.

Well I'm actually getting hammered by the tax law...
it's my understanding that states with state income taxes allowing real estate tax deductions are getting hammered because their own state income tax laws allowed "double dipping" in regards to deductions. If they are democrats in favor of higher taxes, it seems they got their wish. Why the complaining?

It is the states that allow real estate deductions that will get hurt the worst.
The standard deduction now will be higher, but still pales in comparison to the money I would pay on interest if the loan I took out and on the state and school taxes I pay. Essentially I will be Paying taxes on that money I have to pay...

Agree. It's progressive in that it taxes those who's mortgage interest exceeds the standard deduction.
This is minor compared to the massive business tax rate cuts. It's a major incentive to start a business and I think will be great for employment, competition, wages, etc. But it will take time to show dividends. It's not instant gratification like Robin Hood Democrat policies.

i agree that the corporate rate was too high. we would have been better off with JUST cutting the corporate rate. the giant companies will just keep the money, as they always do, rather than increase wages or re-invest.

It sounds like you are calling the corporate tax cuts "supply side, trickle down" but then also saying we should have implemented only that. The other thing is that personal tax cuts are temporary while the corporate tax cuts are permanent. It sounds like you will get exactly what you want, no?

this is not an all-or-nothing type of thing. there is so much nuance to the tax code. its not as simple as just a number.
going down to 21% is too big a jump.
i actually dont mind eliminating some of the deductions. still, hedge funds get off scott free, capital gains rates are separate, and the banks just had their best month EVER. these new changes will exacerbate income inequality.
sounds like a paradox, but i do think that trump will eventually push the country more towards single-payer, globalism, and socialism in the long run. the backlash is inevitable

I often use "black" as an adjective with people I'm familiar with but never as a noun, like "He's a black". Reminds me of Roy Moore's wife saying their lawyer was "a Jew". It cracks me up because, although it's striking, it's not "racist", it's just not PC. It's a generational, cultural thing.

Trump thinks of himself as the sun, with everyone else revolving around him. The Blacks, the Gays, the Evangelicals, the competitors, the Leakers, etc.
He might judge people based on their threat level. But he has NOTHING in common with the racist Dylann Roof who killed the people in church.
