I heard that Dr. Pepper was created by an actual MD whose name was pepper. Is this true at all? Has anyone ever noticed that Dr. Pepper tastes a little like medicine?

Mr. Pibb was a DO, but he could never get the respect he deserved.

mmm im drinking dr. pepper right now...>.>
and it only tastes like medicine when you stop drinking it for a while...so NEVER stop drinking carbonated water+high fructose corn syrup+caramel color+phosphoric acid+blah blah blah...caffeine

Back in the day, in the 30's I believe, soft-drinks were made as a cure all. Doctors would prescribe people soda for things such as stomach issues, headache, cancer, it really did not matter. Not to mention that many of these drinks contained cocaine, which is what made people feel better.

Ironically, soda does kind of help with headache and stomach upset. So in answer to your question, I don't know for sure, but it sounds about right.

yeah same. It has that weird taste. I like Coke, Sprite, fanta, root beer, almost anything better than Dr Pepper.

I think a lot of people don't like it cuz it has prunes in it. I love it though.

Why's he gotta be an MD? Maybe Dr. Pepper is a DO.

Delicious medicine. Seriously Diet Dr. Pepper is the best soda out there. I have like six twelve packs sitting on top of my fridge. It's the only soda I buy.

Also: [Mitch]Mr. Pibb is a poor imitation of Dr. Pepper. Dude didn't even get his degree.[/Mitch]

This thread is awesome, as is Dr. Pepper.

BTW, for those who are curious, I chose this avatar not because Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda (it's a tie between Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew to be honest), but because of a pretty famous Mitch Hedberg joke.

"Mr. Pibb is a replica of Dr Pepper, but it's a bull**** replica, 'cuz dude didn't even get his degree. Why did you have to drop out of school and start making pop so soon?"
-Dr. P.

yeah Mountain Dew is amazing. Probably my favorite along with root beer.

^Dude, mountain dew makes your testes shrink. This is a very well known fact...

Dr. Pepper is awesome. Tastes like cherry coke.
Now root bear....THAT'S disgusting...that s*** tastes like pepto bismol, and it's got a weird aftertaste that you can't get rid of for like an hour. It's nasty.

The grad students in my department have a tradition of putting name tags on all the first year's desks with random or ironic nicknames. When I was a first year, it was common knowledge that I had a particular facination with the idea of prepending "Dr." to my name someday, as well as a bad habit of drinking pop, and thus I was "Dr. Pepper, PhD." Perhaps Dr. Pepper is a physicist?

Dang it! I was 3 minutes too late to make this joke 😡

But while we're at it... what not a DDS or a PharmD? 😉

I've been drinking too much benzene--my avatar says it all!

Or, heaven forbid, perhaps Dr. Pepper is a lawyer!

See Wikipedia:

Though lawyers in the United States do not customarily use such a title, the law degree in that country is the Juris Doctor, a professional doctorate degree, and some J.D. holders in the United States use the title of "Doctor" in professional and academic situations. In countries where holders of the first law degree traditionally use the title of doctor (e.g. Peru, Brazil, Macau, Portugal, Argentina, and Italy), J.D. holders who are attorneys will often use the title of doctor as well.
