Hi everyone,

I am a premed and recent graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I was recently applied to both md, do and mph programs but had a less than stellar 24Q mcat and a 3.6 gpa. I was accepted into drexels 2 yr full time masters in public health program in community public health and was looking rather unsuccessfully for cheap furnished housing or female roommates in the Hahnemann campus area (sent in $300 deposit and set to receive $8000 dean award per yr). today, I was invited to apply to the accelerated mph in 1 yr at Touro California with a guaranteed interview to Touro U college of osteopathic medicine if I maintain a 3.0 while pursuing the mph for the following year. But I would still need to send essays and forward mY aacomas to tu and interview there before I get the tu mph spot. So its not a done deal with tu yet and id need to fly from tn to ca for the interview for the mph spot which is expensive so im not sure how worth my time it will be. I will be retaking the mcat soon as well. While I loved drexels program I don't really know much about tu ca mph. Thoughts? I ultimately want to work in primary care as a physician to underserved populations

IMHO if you're concerned about finances and looking to work in primary care, don't do the MPH at this time. Let your future employer cover the cost when you're either a resident or an attending.

I may have confused some of you so to clarify...I was accepted to Drexel and had sent in my deposit for the fall when I received an invitation only chance to apply for an accelerated mph at Touro CA since I did not get into their DO/MPH program. I am also retaking the mcat in July or august.

I just want a perspective on programs since I know very little about Touro other than that I get a guaranteed interview for their osteopathic medical school after a year but if I don't get into their DO class then I'll have to continue on for another year to finish the mph as the credits are nonrtransferable to another school. If I apply to Touro I will also need to interview for the mph spot which is added expense.

So it's not that I'm debating on when to do the mph but where. And as for medical school I'm interested in primary care and internal but want the mph for enhanced understanding and experience it'll add to my later studies as a physician. Thanks for all who've responded tho.
