For those of you, who'll be living in philly I have a twin bed, desk, dresser, chair and mirror for sale. I did msp last year and lived in stiles. Feel free to ask any questions regarding the program or anything else.

P.S. like everything else, you get what you put in

Where are the classes held for the MSP program (main campus or medical campus) ? Thanks!!

Hey DenevirMedecin, I had completed my application on 7.8.11. I called to check on my application status 7.15.11 and the lady said I was on the list of people who were going to be called for an interview scheduling. So I set up my interview and I have it on 7.20.11.

If you haven't already called, be sure to call them! I will let you know how mine goes!
Good luck 🙂

Anyone know if they are still doing MSP interviews?

Hey guys. Just got the word, I am into IMS philly (Interview was on Thursday). Appreciate the help, and I will see you in couple of weeks.

Just called, spoke with a girl who told me my application was still with the committee. She said that means it's under review. She also said they will contact me if they are interested in an interview. I offered to make a date, but he said thats out of her hands, someone else from the committee will call. Seemed very sincere. Judging from others experiences I'd say my application is at the bottom of a pile. Maybe I should hope I can make the cut next year?

Yay, I was moved from 'hold' status to 'accepted' today for MSP!!!
Now I need to find housing. I called someone from stiles apt and I think the price is high. Anyone know of close off-campus apt and need of a roommate? Any recommended very close off campus apts?

Still keep hope because they are still reviewing applications!

Hey guys,

I turned in my deposit and Information sheet for IMS, but havent yet turned in Immunizations... I am wondering when you got your Drexel ID #. Did they send you another email with that? Do I need to turn in the Immunization form first?

Thanks.

When you do the new accounts orientation procedure, you'll get your Drexel ID, email, and other accounts all at the same time. When you get them, it'll give you the chance to save all that info. I just copied the page into MS Word and saved it on my HD.

they will send you another email confirming your deposit when they receive it. it will tell you when to go set up your account.

Got a call from someone representing the program. She said I had exceptional recommendation letters, she said my post-bacc GPA is great, but my undergrad GPA was too low. They could not offer me admission to the MSP program nor would she put me on the waitlist (she says there are no vacancies on the MSP) but she wanted to offer me an interview to the IHS and MFS, the interdisciplinary Heath science program and masters of forensic science respectively. I waffled a bit, I was very nervous. And I must say I was slightly put off by the offer to take such a tangential route to the one I intended. I told her I did not like the idea of pursuing a MFS, but I accepted the offer to interview for the IHS. She said someone would call to schedule.

Not sure what to do.

Hey I am sorry about the MSP, but that's great that they are offering you the other interviews!

I was actually wondering if you would be willing to share your gpa because I have yet to hear from them and I have heard nothing so far since my interview yesterday. You had an interview for MSP?

Thanks in advance!

Congrats oldfogey and star lights! Devenir, have you looked into transferring from IHS to IMS or MSP? Maybe you can ask them that during the interview. Or, maybe you can try and do your own post bacc and reapply next year. Either way, if you really want it, don't give up! You can do it!

I withdrew my acceptance in IMS today. I'm attending RFU in order to be able to start med school in 2012. Good luck to someone who gets my spot!

I haven't read through this whole thread so I'm not sure what your plans are (i.e. going from MSP to IMS or MSP only) but if you had planned on eventually going to the IMS program after your MSP year, the IHS-MIHS route is not as bad an option as you might think.

First, some classes are shared between MSP and IHS. When I was in the MSP program I studied with several IHS students for a few classes (MSP and IHS share Biochem, Pharmacology and Physiology that I know of). Obviously they didn’t take UG Phys, Chem, or Orgo, but if you moved on into the MIHS "doctor track" (called Medical Science) for your second year you would take all of the same medical school courses as the IMS students, except for Nutrition and Immunology (which means you would not qualify for a guaranteed DCOM interview). So… secondly, taking and doing well in the MIHS med courses could have the potential to override any low UG BCPM grades without having to retake the BCPM's to prove yourself.

Also, some more food for thought, there was a decent percentage of our MSP class that decided to go into MIHS instead of IMS for their second year (reasons of which I can go into later if you want).

-Former MSP, current IMSer 👍

Does anybody have the orientation schedule for IHS/IMS?

May I ask what was your GPA when you applied? I wanted to know what they mean by "your GPA is too low". Thanks!!

For those who applied to the IMS program: When you fill out the application, did you check both boxes (one says IHS/MSP/IMS) and the other is IMS Sac?

If you only check the IHS/MSP/IMS box, and got into IMS, do you get to chose to take the class in Sac?

No, I don't think you can take the class in Sac unless you checked the box. The first box is referring to the program in Philly. I checked both boxes and got 2 seperate emails saying I was accepted into Philly and Sac. But you can try to call them and ask if theres still space in the Sac class and you may be able to switch over.

Actually, I think you can. I never got 2 diff emaills, just the one acceptance for Philly, but I requested Sac the day I got the acceptance and since I live in Cali they had no problem switching me to the Sac program.

I'll be attending IMS Philly 🙂

Does anyone know where we can find a textbook list? After reading the IMS 2010-2011 thread I saw that most people already bought some of their books by this time last year, but I'm not sure where to find the list of textbooks we'll need...

I already tried the bookstore's site, but IMS isn't listed as an option under department. 😕 Thanks!

Heya, I think they just updated their modules, so here is the revised list for MS1 students - http://webcampus.drexelmed.edu/IFM/2011-12_Y1_RequiredTexts.pdf (We won't have all those courses) - or here is our handbook: http://webcampus.drexelmed.edu/Prof...eHealthSciences-StudentHandbook 2011-2012.pdf

Books are pretty cheap, and if you don't have an amazon prime account or it has expired, you can sign up for a new one with the Drexel email (If you don't have a cheaper site to buy books from, I haven't really done much comparison shopping). I managed to pick up some of the recommended books from previous students, just had them thrown over my fence yesterday!

Also, from the previous thread, Deuces posted:
The consensus seems to be that you NEED the Medicine & Society (ethics) book, the Nutrition book is crucial, and you should pick up the stuff for the two lab classes (Microanatomy and Neuro). Everything else is expensive, on reserve in the library, and fairly useless because of the module notes we receive.
One more edit, sorry - I think if you want a reference book, the older editions are a lot cheaper, but Amazon has some pretty nice deals. You can check last year's notes to see if you will want some reference books - http://webcampus.drexelmed.edu/IFM/IFM2011/modules.asp

hi all,

i posted earlier in this thread looking for a roommate. so i found an apt, about 4 blocks from the building the philly ims students will be studying in. and its only 500-600 per person with 3 people in a 4 bedroom. one of the girls i was supposed to live with dropped out bc she isnt attending drexel anymore. any girls interested in this place? it's newly renovated, has a washer/dryer, is on the border of chinatown so plenty of food, etc everywhere. we got pretty lucky with a good spot. let me know asap please. and since its a 4 bedroom, if we find yet another girl, it can be only 450 per person. message me if intererested.

Where is the apt located? Does the rent include utilities? If not, what is the approx utilties a month?

Sorry, but what is RFU?

Rosalind Franklin University Medicine and Science. Once you get in, your gpa and MCAT become almost irrelevant. You matriculate right into Chicago Med based on your performance in the program. I like that fact that many students with straight B's get in.

Has anyone been able to get the lectures playing at more than normal speed (eg 1.5x) without it constantly buffering? Seems like last year's IMS students claimed they did this last year --I assume with VLC player-- but it seems to need to buffer every 30 seconds or so.

WMP seems to be working now, even at faster speeds. Apparently, IFM just sent an email out to the med students listserv and maybe to ims listserv ( i am not on it yet) with specific instructions noting that people were having trouble...

Is it possible to download the videos to watch later?

They will be available for streaming for as long as needed on the year one medical students webcampus. Not sure about downloading, but not sure you'd need to.

Anyone hear anything about sweat fitness? Apparently they sent an email out to people that told you to download a form to bring to sweat. Anyone get this email or know where to find the form?

Hi everyone,

How are you liking the MSP program so far? I'm thinking of applying and I want to know if it's worth the money. That's my only hang up about it!

If you have already "graduated" from the program I have another set of questions!

Do you feel like it prepared you for medical school? What medical school do you attend now? How do students pay for the education? Is it worth all of the money? What were your likes/dislikes? Were you ready to take on the tough curriculum of the program? Did it really help your chances of getting into medical school?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

I am also interested in feedback from this batch of IMS admitees. I am very interested in going next year.

PS: I am curious with the satellite stuff, how much is satellite? What classes if any do you attend.
