Same old question, where would you go and why?

Both are great schools. I'll take ATL over Philly.

You'll get a good education at either school. Maybe you can tell us more about what you're looking for in a school, and we can help determine which is a better fit for you.

I'd pick Drexel. I haven't been there or anything but I passed by it on my UPenn interview and it was pretty much in the same area, which was a nice part of philly.

I wouldn't go to Morehouse because I'm not a big fan of the south, but that's just me.

That was Drexel UNIVERSITY you saw, not Drexel Med School. The med school is in a completely different part of Philly called Queen Lane. I haven't been to the med school, but people who have say the area is pretty suburban in feel.

I'd have to disagree with person who said UPenn is in a nice part of Philly...rather it's on the edge. I spent a summer living on UPenn's campus, working there and in center city. You'd be crazy to walk north of 40th street without a valid reason and that's where UPenn's campus ends (it extends to about 34th or something). And there have been multiple murder's on Penn's campus...that's why their security is out the wazoo. The summer I was there mutliple people got robbed on campus. The job I worked involved a lot of traveling so I've seen alot of Philly and I'd say it's not very safe. they keep a murder count in the philly inquirer for a reason! when I was there, in 2007, it reached 200 in july.

So, I would make sure I know what part of Philly Drexel's medical school was in, because overall the city is not safe. Also, know it's kinda a pain to get around without a car (yet so expensive to have one). The subway only runs in a + sign so if you're not lucky enough to live and go to school on the route, you'd have to bus. That said though, I enjoyed my summer in Philly and would go to school there, I would just live very street smart. And think long and hard if it was in an area like Temple's.

The neighborhood of Philly is actually called East Falls. It is definitely a much more suburban area of the city.

My bad. Come to think of it, Queen Lane is actually the address of the school itself. (I guess I'm having one of those "senior moments" a bit ahead of schedule.)

yes, both schools are great and I am really happy to be accepted at both.
I like the small class size, supportive environment, and individual attention students receive from faculty and residents from Morehouse. I also like that students are treated as interns during clerskships (mainly at Grady Memorial which receives a lot of patients and is short-staffed), and the curriculum is structured in a problem-based/symptoms based format.

I like that Drexel is close to home and is affiliated with many hospitals throughout PA. I am also interested in both Psychiatry and Neuro, and Drexel requires a rotation in neurology. But i do not like the Lottery system they have during clerkships, because I might end up rotating at a place that i do not prefer. Also, this school is more expensive, and cost is an important factor for me.

I have an idea of where I would like to go, I just wanted to get a better perspective from others, espescially current students, of the pros and cons of each school

For what it's worth, Drexel's curriculum is similarly structured. As I'm sure you know, the PIL program is based on small group study and has material presented in case studies and problems. Drexel's IFM curriculum is symptom-based. Modules have titles like "Chest Pain," "Shortness of Breath," etc., and the material presented in each module relates to the given symptom. For example, in the Chest Pain module you'll discuss lipids in biochemistry, the cardiovascular system in physiology, the structure of the heart and the circulatory system in gross anatomy, etc. It's a great way to integrate the material and keep it relevant to clinical practice.

Thanks for the information, I actually found PIL to be interesting but i did not like the amount of time they devote to it. so it is nice to have the option of choosing IFM. But if anyone out there is willing to share their likes/dislikes of the schools i would really appreciate it...

I actually got into both of these schools as well... I loved Morehouse, mostly due to the people & the fact that it's in ATL, plus the super small class size. After visiting Drexel, I sorta changed my mind b/c they have way more electives in the clinical years. If you def want to do primary care, that's not really an issue though. I guess it just depends what you're looking for specifically b/c both are great schools.
