I find it difficult to pay attention during my 2+ hour physiology lecture.

Besides coffee, what do some of you guys use to help you concentrate and stay awake during boring lectures?

Monster? Red Bull? If so, WHEN should you take these drinks? An hour before lecture? Minutes before lecture?

To stay awake during school:
1 nodoz every 2 hours.

A nice rum and coke hits the spot every time. Sometimes two or three, depending on how boring the lecture is.

Honestly, I drink ice cold water. Energy drinks and coffee have never given me much of an energy boost, though.

Agreed, preferably spiced rum cause its delicious.

Not to sound like a complete drunk or an idiot but I feel that when I have a drink or two I feel more relaxed and it helps me to study. I am not saying down a bottle or play power hour in the back row. Put it in a bottle that isn't obvious or use a flask.

Going back to the non-alcoholic suggestions.

Ice water... the cold alone makes me uncomfortable enough to stay awake. Failing that, I find something else to do on my computer to keep my attention.

do you find this one preferable to the 16 year? tasting notes plz 😛

Meh, more of an Aberlour fan myself. I swear there must be anesthetic in A'bunadh.

On a side note I am happy to say that I will be sampling my first bottle of Laphroaig when I get home after watching 2 days of medical school lectures 😀. I've heard such a wide range of comments on it so I'm sure one way or another it's going to be a new taste.http://scotchhunter.com/index.php?cat=100

If I know the lecture is going to be insensibly boring then I'll grab a soda before class along with some kind of fruit filled granola bar (fiber bar, cereal bar, whatever is available) & pull them out right when I feel the urge to drift off coming on.

I feel like the food helps more than anything though.

5-Hour Energy. I doubted it for a long time but tried it and it seriously works. I usually down these lil shots during long-winded lectures. Stuff is legit.

You actually go to lecture? Stop going. 😉

Green Tea.

Energy drinks taste disgusting, and are unhealthy and toolish.

If you like Aberlour try The Balvenie, too. The Doublewood has that same smooth Speyside character without coming off as completely boring like, oh I don't know, Glenlivet? :meanie: I didn't like the idea of a sherried malt until i tried one 🙄

Hope you enjoyed your Laphroaig, it's my favorite of all the Islays I've tried.

5 hour energy made me puke for 5 hours... not sure if that's the intended effect.

All the doctors where I work drink the rockstar drinks that come in bright yellow cans... Kind of like energy gatorade, and it's marginally better for you than the sodas.

Monster Drink .... but switching to Caffeine Caplets 🙂

After reading this thread I just tried this stuff for the first time. I have a rather large resistance to caffeine built up, but I'm really feeling it! It's awesome!

Your drinking is much too classy for me 😱

Seriously, I've never heard of anything you mentioned. I had to Google Lagavulin.

Who the heck comes up with these names anyways. I particularly like Cocaine Energy Drink (now with real cocaine).

Never heard of Vault, might have to try it.

400 babies! lololol

Cocaine's half life is far too short (around an hour) so hopefully this energy drink also includes caffeine (t1/2 ~ 5hrs on average). Otherwise you will be drinking them...well...as if you were addicted to cocaine.

Now a meth based energy drink could work.

If it makes you feel better it's an obsession that was recently introduced to me. Before that I had thought that Crown Royal was the best of whisky 😀

Never tried these, but my bookstore was hawking free Red Bull energy shots at the beginning of the semester. I got three, drank one and literally almost threw up. It tasted like bubble gum mixed with the most bitter and disgusting cough medicine ever. And it didn't even work. Needless to say the other two are sitting on my desk collecting dust.

5 hour energy made me feel like crap right after drinking it. Worst product ever.
Weird! Were you guys taking it on an empty stomach or something?

It's the only thing that works for me. 🙂 Everything else gives me that crash; 5-Hour, for me, is almost like liquid crack.

I say don't knock it 'til you've tried it. I'm not sure what the Red Bull shots have in them have since I've never had it, but I'd imagine it's similar since your description pretty much fits 5-Hour. Bit of a funky taste but it gets the job done if you can man up. 😉

I still recommend caffeine pills/caplets that you can buy at your local drug store for extremely cheap. They come to about 13 cents per pill; each pill is equivalent to the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee (200mg). They are much more economical than energy drinks, without all the added BS ingredients.
