Are you guys going to take a flight or drive for places that's like a 6-8 hour drive away? Just curious...

Flight. I am working full time and if I miss days I miss pay. The flight has expenses too but not nearly how much I make a day...not to mention the enormous time saved.

If you have the time though or if there are friends going with you I can see driving being a fun thing to do!

I haven't thought about it yet :/ no interviews yet unfortunately. But I would probably start calculating the price for gas and see how much flight prices would be and compare. And then keep in mind that taking a plane, you would need a cab a few times probably so figure that in too.

yah i was thinking of driving just because of the convenience of having your own car. and with flights and car rentals/cabs, it doesn't seem like you really save that much more time.

Did you already get interviews somewhere that's within that distance by your house? I would try to calculate the money for gas and whatnot versus the cabs or a rental.

If it's 5 hours or more I would really consider airline. I drove for 5 hours to a school and believe me you get bored quickly.

Also consider Amtrak, you can get really good deals.

if you can find a friend who wants to visit family in that area or another friend who also has an interview, carpool! but, i would definitely do some cost-time analysis for flying versus driving. if you get the interview in advance, a flight may be cheaper.

you can consider the bus if the distance is less than a 10 hour drive. megabus has some great deals.

for me, the ground rule would prob. be <10 hours drive. i mean if you leave really really early in the morning the day before, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to cut 2-3 hours off of a trip. but then again, that comes from personal experience and where I live.
