Is it possible to drop a course you've already taken and failed. ie do schools grant WD's or INC or what not if you petition a failed course.
I don't want the failed mark on my transcript.
I'd rather do another course that would fill the requirement..
Any suggestions?

Most schools won't let you drop a failed course. I think the best you can do is retake and ace it. The F will still be on your transcript, but at least you will have something to show from the course.

if you retake a course at my school (top 10), the original grade does not stay on the transcript.

Really? Then I will have to say, "You bastard." I know most schools will not average your grades so it'll be higher than when you apply to med school, but the grade stays on the transcript for AMCAS to see and they average..

It IS possible to retroactively withdraw from the class if you have the proper documentation to show that by all rights you shouldn't have been taking the class/final when you did, but for some reason, call it a silly thing like 'pride, honor' you gave it the old collegiate try. Usually this involves a death in the direct family, hospital stay RIGHT before the final.. etc. Things along that magnitude.

yeah, I think you should re-take it and do WELL the second time around. One F shouldn't doom your GPA by itself, and you can always use this as a learning experience for your "overcoming a challenge" essays you'll be writing for secondaries.

I have a housemate that retroactively withdrew from ALL of his classes this semester because he was failing ALL of them. He has done this more than once, although I think this is the first time he did it for an entire semester. But then again, to help his cause, he faked being sick for 5 weeks (I know he was faking because I live with him), and he faked having ADD (so now he has Disabilities Services helping him too). For those of you who have heard my housemate gripes, this is the kid I wanted to muder over the summer, and still do.

However, I think you need to be fairly convincing in the reason you shouldn't be given an F in the class. The housemate of mine has extensive documentation of all his ailments, which is impressive considering that they're all fake.

Well the predicament that I'm in is that this is my final year. All my other courses are high B's or A's. I have never failed a course no matter how bad it's been. I don't see how I can make it up if I'm graduating this year. And I don' t see how any school, medical or otherwise would even want me now.
I am going to see the prof today. He keeps ignoring my emails (needless to say he's an a$$). Hopefully this is a mistake, if not, I guess i'm doomed to be a bumm :scared: 🙁

Is it offered any other term? Offered during the summer? Maybe you can stay one extra year or term? Did you offer to sleep with him?

Honestly..at this point, i'm considering anything

You can't drop the course, just make sure you do well when you retake it, but it also depends on the course. Is this a pre-req science course or an upper divison graduate level course? I agree that you can use this to say how you have overcome a challenge in your secondaries and stuff, so don't think about it too much, it will work out 🙂

I have a friend who took a graduate level electricial engineering course as a junior and failed it, but he retook it and aced it and is at a top 10 med school now, so it depends on a lot of things.

Goodluck

If i retake it, that means i don't graduate this year, and I wait an extra year to go to med school or grad school.
I guess I have some thinking to do..
Just my luck, it's my last year and I made a terrible judgment call on which course I should take just to fill up my schedule..

+pity+
