Currently taking an online statistics class. My average is around an 87 but it's only going to get increasingly more difficult. I have talked to the math department and they said they would allow me to switch into a lecture based class but I would get a W on my transcript (Drop online course->get W->enroll for lecture based course). I would most certainly make an A in the lecture based course because the teacher is great, and I may even make an A in the online course but it is more like playing roulette. I am not sure how the next two exams will be. What to dewwwwwww? How would med school admissions look at a W and then see that I enrolled for the course that same semester.

ownage prank calls guy?

I say stay in the online course and get a B+

Don't be an idiot. Don't drop a course you have a B+ in. How about you study for the next two exams, get A's, and get an A in the class.

I can't believe people have thoughts like these...

Seriously?

A B doesn't bomb a medical school application. If you get into the habit of dropping a class every time you think you might not ace it, then you should be more concerned about making it through the first few weeks of medical school...

Do not take a W over a B+/A-. There is nothing wrong with either of those grades, and repeating a class for this reason would be ridiculous. As someone else said, study harder and bump it up.

some of you mad cause I'm mad about a B. I'm going to stay in the class and get a tutor/sit in on some lectures. On another note, my school is not on a +\- grading scale so a B+ is out of the question 🙁. Thanks for the input.

I couldn't care less if you're mad about a B. I was simply remarking that if you're going to get stressed out and run away from things that you aren't mastering immediately, then you're going to have a really tough time when it comes to medical school. A B is not the end of the world. It's not even close. Surviving pre-med, med school, and being a physician has as much to do with perseverence and willingness to learn from your mistakes as it does actual smarts.

No a B is not the end of the world, that I will agree with.

I'm not sure if you understand my original post. I had originally decided to take an online class earlier this semester and just recently found out I'm not doing so hot in the class (by my standards dammit, it's a relative matter) . I talked to a professor and asked if I could switch into a lecture based class (because I want to do better on my coursework) and after talking to admissions found out it would result in a W. I would not retake the course, I would be added into a different section and complete it the same time I normally would. Once I was in this section I would most likely perform better in the class, one because the teacher is kick ass, and two because I would not be forced to learn on my own (16 credits on top of the class+ECs).

Switching to a lecture isn't running 🙂

lecture>online; everytime

You're right, I didn't get all the details from the original post. It sucks that it would result in a W, since the course number should theoretically be the same. I don't think the W would be a big deal anyway, especially since you can explain it, but it might be worth going up the chain and seeing if you can avoid it. You should definitely be wherever you think you'll do best.
