Would dropping ones second major have any adverse effects, after one has been accepted. I am a double major in a humanity and a science. I enjoy science and if medicine didn't work out, I would like to go on to work in some science related field(for which I would need a science major) However, this major requires some daunting senior year courses, and if accepted to medical school I would have no need to take these course or attain the science major. Say I get into medical school and decide to relax my senior year spring, taking humanities classes only. I am assuming that I would need to update them on this decision to drop the science degree, but is it possible that it could hurt me. Thanks for the help!

If you got accepted it would be best to COMPLETE your academic schedule that you informed the committee prior to acceptance. Dropping a class is one thing (bad form) but dropping a Major? Get that idea out of your head.

Run the idea by the school before you make any final decisions. May need to talk with the dean of admissions.

Just "Updating" them of your decision could backfire.

It would be bad form, but honestly I don't think it would matter so long as you aren't dropping any pre-req courses. Generally you're accepted on what you've done, not what you're going to do (unless you're currently taking a pre-req course and your matriculation is contingent upon completion).

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this comment, but I believe it to be true.

Thanks to all. If there is any downside to doing so I didn't want to do it, and it sounds like there might be a downside, so I will probably just tough out my senior year. Oh Well
