Hello everybody,

Having followed the PhD thread here and on thegradcafe for a few days now, I am wondering if anyone who applied to DrPH has heard back yet. If you have, please post your stats and other relevant info here.

I am beginning to get worried as I haven't heard anything yet. I'd also like to know what you think about my chances of getting in and am posting my stats below [my GRE isn't the most amazing I know 🙁 ].

Undergrad GPA:3.7
MPH GPA: 3.65
GRE: V580 Q540 AW4.5
Work Exp: Fellow at NIH (current)
1 year university teaching experience

Significant community outreach and research experience, one publication and one award for community service. I've applied to DrPH International Health at JHU, Global Health and Population at Harvard, and Behavioral Sciences at Columbia.

Thanks, and best wishes to all!

I applied only to UIC's DrPH in Leadership (online), and I have yet to hear anything. FYI, my stats are as follows:

uGPA: 3.3 in Biology
MPH: 3.8 in Epidemiology
MPPA: 4.0 in Public Policy & Admin
GCert: 4.0 in Gerontology
MA(c): 4.0 in Aging & Health
GRE scores are ancient; not required by UIC's DrPH app and not sumbitted...
Nearly 17 years of professional public health practice, incl upward movement.

Itchin' to hear...

Hi futureDrPH,

I got a rejection from Johns Hopkins today. Thank you for your reply, and wishing you the best! Keep us posted!

Future DrPH,

I'm in that program now and started last year. Your stats look good (better than mine). I think they place a lot of emphasis on experience and bringing a diverse group together. My cohort has about a third from local PH, a third from state and a third from CDC/HHS. On the other hand it is mostly people from governmental public health and is very focused in that area.

The online classes are pretty cool and run almost exactly like an in house class. So far, the first two core courses feel a lot like public admin courses. If you want to know more about the program feel free to contact me.

Thanks, Kevin36, for the offer. Before applying, I read a lot about the program -- both on the UIC website and via other sources of information, as well (in fact, I came across your SDN posts from last year). It seems like I would be a good fit (given my training, experience, and interests) in the program, and I think I would really enjoy it...if everything works out! Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted.

southpaw12 -- sorry to hear about the JHU rejection. But keep the faith...and keep us posted!

Contacted Alyson Lofthouse at UIC SPH about my DrPH app and was told that decisions would be made by the first week of April 2011. It's been difficult to wait, but I'm hanging in there...

FYI, my timeline:
10/18/10 - app submitted to SOPHAS
11/08/10 - app verified by SOPHAS
11/16/10 - LORs all complete @ SOPHAS
11/20/10 - email from UIC (my only app/school) that SOPHAS app arrived
11/23/10 - notified by SOPHAS that my app was sent out (which I knew)

Heard from Alyson Lofthouse at UIC SPH, via email earlier today, that I'm being recommended for admission to the DrPH program! Hooray!
