This.

Let's be honest people. Cannabis at the very least has been shown to relieve glaucoma as well as reduce nausea and produce hunger in chemotherapy patients. If it wasn't such a damn taboo topic, the would be more funding available and scientists would be motivated to pursue cannabinoid and THC research to actually prove/disprove all the alleged pros/cons of cannabis use.

There's actually a research study in CT where they put you on THC for money.

Let's just say some people don't react the way normal people do to THC and have horrifying, traumatic anxiety attacks about being expelled and then taken away by Homeland Security...

THC research isn't really an unknown topic with respect to funding exactly because of this "controversy." There have been substantial research dollars thrown at it. Also, if MJ had legitimate medical use, don't you think the pharma companies would've discovered this by now and be selling the piss out of it? Your argument makes absolutely no sense.

Nice try slick.

This. Actually, I have read many threads of people complaining because their previous marijuana use led to severe anxiety attacks, paranoia, and schizophrenic symptoms. Sound safe to you? I'm glad some people aren't harmed by it, but many others can be. Whether it has important medicinal uses or not, it should NOT be permitted to be used legally as a recreation drug. Even if it doesn't hurt you, the secondhand smoke and the thirdhand reek are unpleasant and potentially not healthy for some sensitive people. And for that matter, cigarettes should be slowly socially phased out, as well. Just because something we *know* is wrong is legal, doesn't mean we should make additional harmful substances legal.

Well, THC research is being conducted, but it is limited. There is still a social stigma attached, no?

No doubt, but that has nothing to do with your original point.

It's cool if people want to fight for legalization of MJ because it's a relatively harmless drug. That's a reasonable argument and one that people can debate. It's stupid if people attempt to legalize it under the guise of a medical treatment that is dubious in its efficacy at best.

I love how every thread on SDN eventually leads to one of the same ~15 or so conversations.
