Hi guys, I have 3 Ds on my transcript and I will be graduating with a 3.33 GPA. I took all of the classes in which I got D over again and got As. The reason I got these low grades it's because my mother divorced and developed severe depression and schizophrenia and I had to take care of her while working 35h a week and being a full time college student. My MCAT is a 31. Do you guys think that I could ever get into MS with these grades? have you heard of anyone else who did? thanks!

Yep, I did. If you already took the classes over, that's the best you can do. Just apply DO. Just do a quick sentence in you PS about taking care of a parent with mental illness that affected your class performance that semester which has since been rectified. You won't know until you apply. Your MCAT is good for DO. Just apply and quit worrying about it.

I think you can go DO right now. I had a few C's and a D from my first two years, but I never had to retake them since they were not in any classes that really mattered.

Don't go DO unless you want to. Your situation is perfectly reasonable and you showed that those few bad grades don't really reflect your abilities. I have a 32 MCAT, *much* worse undergrad gpa, for similar reasons (although I didn't have quite so much of a work burden when my family was having issues) but I have an interview at my top school. I've done plenty of work in the meantime but just to reiterate, you can get an MD with your GPA.

You are on the right track. Your work and new letters will likely help. Your MCAT isn't bad but not stellar. If you truly believe you can increase your MCAT confidently to at least a 34 go for a retest. Otherwise it is still adequate. You certainly don't want to retake and get worse. They normally want to see significant improvement on a retest.

Your stats are certainly adequate for many MD schools and definitely DO.

If nothing else, just continue to work, get the letters. Prep for the interview and you will make it.

i have C's, D's, and F's on my application. I'm holding an MD admission spot.

thanks for all the words of encouragement guys, my other problem is that I will be applying in august because i only need to finish one class in the summer. I hope that is not a huge problem. The medical school committee of my town came to my school once and said that applying a little late does't hurt because they don't have time to review all the applications right away. What do you guys think?

3 Ds are nothing, apply broadly and strategically... why do u need to delay ur application, I don't get it? Do u have 90 credits?
