Dual Applications: Neurology and Neurosurgery

I am considering applying for both neurology and neurosurgery residencies this coming fall. Both fields are equally appealing to me, though in different ways. If I do go through with this, I will most likely be applying to the neuro and neurosx programs at the same institution.

Has anyone heard of anyone doing anything like this (even in other fields), and what was the outcome? My fear is that each program will learn of my application to the other, and write me off for lack of dedication, etc.

Should I be open about my dual application in interviews? In my application? How might a dual application be regarded?

You can apply to both neurosurg as well as neuro with sfmatch.
The registration form has a column - i intend to register in another speciality and then write the name-
You should ask sfmatch if you need separate registration forms for other speciality.
I have done this process (realized that even the best FMGs can't get nsurg , but that is besides the point)
The residency co-ordinators at most places are different for neurology and neurosurgery. So one department at the same institution will NOT come to know that you are applying to the other.
You can also write separate personal statements for nsurg and neuro, actually YOU SHOULD (to demonstrate motivation) without mentioning that you are also interested in the other just to be on a safe side.
The only EXCEPTION to this , in my experience is Albany Med College in Albany , NY. There the residency coordinator for both nsurg as well as neuro is Ms Michelle Unser. So she can come to know whether a candidate has applied to both neuro and nsurg.
Best is to check whether the residency coordinator is the same. If not, then there is no way either departments can come to know whether you have applied to the other.
However i don't think that is the case in other programs.
