Hey guys. I want to get a second degree in Art before med school, but I don't want to take any breaks in between. How plausible is this?

Double-majoring in a science/non-science combo may show adcoms that you are interested in things besides medicine and science (i.e., you're not a robot, you have other interests and are well-rounded). Art is fascinating and beautiful, I'd say go for it! But to address the question at hand, it depends on how you feel about taking a gap year. If you are able to complete the art degree in the usual 4 years of undergraduate studies, then there is no problem! But from your post it seems you are unable to satisfy the art requirements in the usual 4 years. If you are passionate about art, go for it! But if you are more passionate about getting into medschool right after college, then do that! It depends on what you want more. From the posts I see on SDN and talking to other people who are in medschool now, adcoms have no objection to the gap year, in fact many argue that it's actually an advantage. Best wishes :luck:

I think it depends on where you go to school. I go to Temple and the art school (Tyler school of art) seems really intense. In the first year or two, most art students can only take one class other than art, and they spend the rest of their time in the studio. If you go to a school that isn't as intense (maybe offers a BA that you can do instead of a BFA), then you can probably manage to do it.

You can always take an extra year to double major, or you can get your degree in art and just complete the pre-med pre reqs. Are you already in school now?
