Yeah I feel the same way... It does seem like everyone has a super high MCAT (or a super high GPA, which you do Suzie! So don't give up yet! The girl that hosted me said she had a not-so-good MCAT but a really high GPA, and a 33 is def better than not-so-good). Unfortunately I have neither.

So last year, Duke sent out an email to all admitted students about 2nd look weekend 3 days after sending the acceptances. Some people hadn't gotten their letters in the mail yet and found out that way (ie, if they got the email they were in, if not they weren't).
3 work days after the mailing date is Monday. I wonder if they'll send out an email tomorrow to all admitted students...

i'll bet those adcom lurkers read these kind of messages to throw us for a loop for the upcoming year. Just cuz you said it, this year those invitations will probably come via carrier pigeon.... or better yet, a note tagged to a throwing knife. 😛
Someone else get waitlisted... I don't know how to start a new thread. mmmm..... accepted with 31.... I believe they sent letters wednesday-acceptance, thursday-rejections, and friday-waitlists.... again they could yell my decision out the window I'm so close

got into duke on saturday...i'm in ny.
My guess is that there is very little order in how they sent out the acceptances/waitlists/rejections. They probably are just slow and are sending them out in waves, office staff only have so many hands. They pushed back the mailing date by a couple days, so they probably were still behind.

Maybe second letter of middle name (reverse alphabetical), then by birthday (prime number months going first), and then by attractiveness (for good measure).
Has anyone gotten an acceptance that wasn't postmarked on the 1st? I know that waitlists were postmarked on the 3rd because a girl in my class got one. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that all waitlists and all acceptances went out on the same days, but I would think since there are probably only 100-150 acceptances sent out, they all went on the same day.
I'm on spring break right now so I won't be able to check my mail again until Friday or Saturday. I'm just assuming that I've been either rejected or waitlisted (neither of which I care to indulge in). For anyone willing, when Admissions sends out the second look email, let us know. Then I can finally put the nail in the coffin and stop obsessing about what my decision might be.
And my rejection letter had a typo! (not that I'm bitter or anything 😉 )

I just got my thin letter. Makes me happy I TiVo'd the Duke/UNC game last Saturday night so I can watch Duke get killed. Over, and over, and over, and over, and over, again. And they dropped to #3. I'm getting pretty excited about those 'Zags, again. Go Andre Morrison!
But the sad, simple truth is I'm still such a huge Dukie that I'm just bitter. Really bitter. And I don't drink, so how can I go drown my sorrows?

It actually seems that the general consensus last year was that Duke creates their class in a particular way and they will take you off the waitlist if you fit they "type" that they are lacking, if that makes sense. Basically if a 22yr old white male with 2 years of research experience and a varsity lacrosse player withdraws, they will try to fill that place with someone similar. Not sure if it's THAT specific, but that's the idea I think.
rejectomondo. Meh. I'm hoping the acceptance was given to someone who really really wanted to go there. I had trouble with paying tution in order to just do research, it seems kinda whack.
Anyone know the number of waitlisted applicants fromprevious years and the number who get admitted?

Give wowzer a break. People throw the "top-tier" term around all the time on this site. Maybe you should get on him for getting high, too (I'd put a smiley face with red eyes here, but I don't see one). If he is really committed to becoming a doctor and serving others, he wouldn't be doing something that could compromise his judgement 😉 😀
I don't want to start a war, but wowzer got a rejection. It sucks. People vent in different ways, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of people feel the same way and just don't say it.

Everyone is allowed to deal with things in their own way. Mine, often as not, is sarcasm. Sorry if it came across as a bit harsh, but I would never actually smack anybody. I just hate hearing people bemoan their circumstances when there are qualified applicants out there w/o any acceptances. I am truly sorry if Duke was your dream school, I know what thats like. Peace and hair grease 👍

Well said. Sorry to come down on you, I just get tired of so many people on this forum being so self-righteous (especially about the whole motivation for becoming a doctor. I figure, even if you want to become a doctor to make money, as long as you are good at what you do and treat your patients with respect, there is no real conflict. There are too many doctors that may want to "help people", but they are simply bad at what they do--personal experience)
