CANTDriv, you have to keep growing the beard! Then when you get in, I want to see a before picture (with beard) and an after picture (with no beard but holding letter) posted on here!

dude... this is the best idea yet! 👍

Also: no shaving. We'll know. We'll tell Richard Wallace.

haha... i thought you might. i just mailed an update to good ole richard wallace today. he's a freakin baller... and you know who else is a baller... that freakin erin in the admissions office... duke has all these ballers everywhere... but no beards. that's why you guys need me 😎

We had a really tough test yesterday, so having sacrificed our whole weekend to Robbins and Janeway (pathology and immuno, respectively) we needed a little bit of a break. 😀
Immuno is parham. Janeway is that hand leasion that IV drug users get when they have endocarditis. You would know about that, wouldn't you? WOULDN'T YOU???

Wow, I think Duke is the only school that has a 5 page and growing anticipating thread !

ya we rule but we are still trying to overthrow those mayo kids... at least we have all these ms1s on our side (burnsie et al)

So is it true that those of us with late interview dates are not at a disadvantage? or are they just saying that to get our hopes up?
I interview on March 1st, btw.

So, basically what they do is, after your interview, they go over your file and give you a score from 0-5 based on your app, interview, etc, etc. Then after everyone has been interviewed, they accept all the 5s and go down from there - 4.9, 4.8, etc, until they've reached the max number they want to accept. Then they go through and waitlist the number they want to waitlist, and reject everyone else. So, no, you're not at a disadvantage for interviewing late.

NYU's is up to 11+ pages, and was around 8 or 9 when the acceptances started rolling out

so femalesCANT gets all this attention for growing out a beard. girls can stop shaving too you know. and if it's for the sake of duke...

in all seriousness though, 15 days!!!

That is...awesome. If I were on the adcom, I'd be damned if I didn't admit a girl who stopped shaving for my school's sake.

Good luck, you guys...you all sound fun. We need those here to counteract grouchies like diosa. 😉

Since we can all potentially be classmates (that is, if we defy all odds, and the moons, stars, and whatever else needs to align actually align) why don't we share where we're from and any other random thing about ourselves?! I'll start:

I'm from Los Angeles and... I can't date people who snore! ((I wake up too easily!)) 😕 😳

I'm from Orange County (Irvine). I fall asleep a lot. 🙂

I'm from Los Angeles. I've never pulled an all nighter 👍

I really don't have a hometown, I've been all over the place. One time I tried to pull an all nighter, but fell sleep on the grass and got bit all over by ants 🙂

I hate to be a negative nancy...

but its likely that not everyone who is wildly posting on this thread will get an acceptance to duke.

i wonder what will happen once acceptances are given out.... will there be congratulations and uber-happy postings rubbing success in the faces of those that aren't as lucky!? will there be sad sad sad people that will hate duke forever and never post on this thread again!? :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

hah, such is life. no need to go nuts for one school. lets just wait. if you countdown your just going to kick yourself in the nuts (or the absence of) if you dont get good news.

I disagree. I say go nuts and enjoy even the possibility of getting into a school like Duke. Besides, I'm probably going to kick myself in the nuts anyways if I get in--if that's even possible--just to make sure I'm not dreaming.

I'll join in... I am from North Carolina and I am obsessed with Roman History.

I will still be happy for those who get in even if I don't! It eases my anxiety to know that there are others out there who are as excited about hearing from Duke as I am so I say let the countdown roll on..true we might not all get in, but I don't think anyone that has posted here will think less of duke if they do not get an acceptance...I would venture a guess and say most everyone who is eagerly awaiting duke's response might have one or more acceptances in hand so that might take the sting off of a duke rejection..I know for me I would LOVE to attend Duke but if I don't get in then I won't be too distraught..haha I just don't want the countdown to end..ok adios

I second this sentiment. You know, if I don't get into Duke, I will be pretty upset at first because it has been my dream school since I started thinking about med schools. However, I (much like probably the rest of you) already have acceptances in hand and will go into medicine regardless. I would also like to note that I do think that the people on this thread who are gung ho about the continuation of the countdown and not shaving their body have a better chance of getting into Duke. All of us who are in this thread who truly have said how much we want Duke should have also shown this at our interview. Thus, if Duke accepts students who really and truly want to come to Duke as much as they say they do, then I think there is a slim chance that maybe all of us will be MS1s at Duke come fall. I mean... I am such a skeptic/pessimist/realist/cynic the rest of the time. I (as well as all of you) deserve to be able to dream about being accepted at Duke.

Stolen... I see where you are coming from, but don't rain on our parade. There is still hope! :luck:

Interesting thought, but I respectfully disagree. I haven't seen much "success rubbing" on any of these types of threads. I think people go out of their way to be sensitive, particularly given that it is an anonymous forum.

The way I look at it is this: if I am fortunate enough to get to make a decision on Duke, the camaraderie of the class will be very important part of that decision. If I don't have the opportunity to make that decision, I know I gave the application my all, and I can tip my cap without ill will to all those amazing individuals who got in.

I think people get too caught up in how happy "milestone moments" will make them and try to postpone a sense of satisfaction until these moments occur. The happiness for me is in the living, not the milestones, and I think this thread is fun, irrespective of whether all of us (or any of us) get in. In the case of this countdown thread, the anticipation is painful, but the combination of neuroticism and hope is also somewhat enjoyable, in a strange sort of way (at least for me...)

I am from lots of places, most recently Baltimore, and my fun fact is that I have crawled inside the ceiling of a video rental store.

eurozo is officially appointed Duke wannabie Class of 2011 Class Philosopher. I would have to agree with what you said buddy. I also enjoy being neurotic.

btw... great fact!

eh. sorry everyone for bringing the pessimism into the room.

when i picture the 2-3 day period of acceptance letters coming out, I also, along with it picture the 2-3 day period of when dreams are crushed. i think the situation would become incredibly awkward even in the likes of an anonymous forum.

maybe im pessimistic in general about this whole process. i probably am. actually, i know i am. this year is primed with insane premeds more than other years past (from what different schools have told me, and from hearsay)

anyway, good luck to all. count it down!

At least we'll all have some pretensious frisbees to take out the frustrations of a rejection. Question is, do we melt it, take a dump on it, or do something worse?

Whatever you do, make sure to take a picture and post in on SDN for Richard Wallace to admire.

duke will be duke no matter who gets in (in 14 days) however the duke med school class of 2011 will be significantly cooler if it contains a large amount of those of us who post on this thread.

also, whether or not i obsessively read this thread, i will obsessively think about duke. so its nice to read what others are thinking.

Well said bro, well said.

Best of luck with Duke and your other schools. It's probably worth it to go to Duke for Wimpy's Grill and Cosmic Cantina alone. 😀

Hey this has been a very entertaining thread.. I interviewed at Duke before Christmas and you guys answered a ton of questions I had on my mind. Anyway I hope I don't get addicted to checking this countdown. Waiting is the hardest part!

Interesting...I wonder what the most conservative city in the nation is. I just finished my undergraduate degree in Provo, Utah and I definitely nominate it!

Maybe....maybe not.... just kidding. Nov 30th - I was one of the few married ones, probably bitching about how I was just coming to grips with all the weight I had gained since I got married. I was also one of the few there who wasn't from an Ivy or other big name school. We got chewed out for talking so loudly in the lounge - it was a pretty fun group. I actually wouldn't mind going to school with *most* of the people who were there. (Except that one kid who kept asking everybody's MCAT score...)

anyone else have a regional interview?

*edit* - I know, I know, ******ed article to cite but it was the first one that Uncle Google brought up.

Am I the only conservative on this thread? I see some interesting discussions in the student lounge next year if we make it into Duke together!

I've had plenty of deep political and religious discussions at class outings, even drunk. Not that I would recommend that, of course...drunk sex conversations tend to be more interesting.

Duuuuuuuuuuude!!! I knew it was you when you said Provo! I was the one sitting right next to you in the lounge and after my first interview I was like, "God, I'm never getting in and I was bitching about how terrible my first interview was." I am also not from a big name school. You went to BYU right? Dude, you are the freakin man! I was like, man this guy is probably one of the nicest guys I have met. Nice to see you're joining the bandwagon for Duke!
