I know everyone is probably feeling the same pain, but my mail does not come until like 6:00pm every day so it is going to be a looooooong monday...no official class of Duke 2011 thread yet? you two acceptees are slacking

Good Luck to everyone waiting:luck: :luck: :luck: I look forward to hearing lots of good news🙂

OMG!!! You know where Lubbock is! Who are you???

Of course I know Lubbock. "Happiness is Lubbock, Texas in the rear-view mirror." Best "f-- you, hometown!" line ever written!

As for Duke letters, if I worked in an office and had dozens and dozens of letters to send out but couldn't send them all out on the same day because there were just too many of them, I would think the most reasonable way to send them out is in alphabetical order. Right? That is, of course, assuming that all/most of the decisions have been made, but it sounds like that is the case, right?

Anyone know if they have 2 or 3 (or more) batches of acceptance letters to send? (In other words, how long is this torture going to stretch out...?)

That assumes that somehow it was all organized in alphabetical order to begin with. Maybe they did something complex that involved basketball seeds of peoples' universities? Maybe that's part of the 5 points?

Speaking of which, did anyone catch that elbow to hanborough's face?

yeah, I saw that. Although it was an ugly hit, i don't think it was intentional. At least Henderson will be back for the NCAA's

Rather than alphabetical, maybe it goes by the order you interviewed? Or maybe it is completely random....or maybe the check sdn to see who to send it to last. That would be pretty spiteful.

edit - 3 days for first class mail to Utah....ouch

doesn't your credit score go down when you check it? so i guess it would be more like, check your score and get docked a point😱

Your credit score doesn't go down when you check it. It goes down when you apply for credit and a creditor checks it (home loans, new credit cards, some cell phone companies, etc).

That being said, I would pay to get my score in a second.

Yeah I don't think it was intentional either. The odd thing is that they decided to eject him AFTER watching video of the hit, right? I say it's odd because it didn't look too intentional. Anyway, it would suck donkeys to get elbowed in the face whether it was intentional or not.

On a more related note, I wonder if they sent stuff out on Saturday too? Or, maybe they didn't actually work in the office on Sat, but had a load of letters in the "out box" at the end of the day Friday that didn't make it into the mail till Saturday? Oh, the speculations I/we all have about Duke Med Admissions' internal office procedures...

Hey Everyone! My boyfriend is hiking the AT and is gone for 5 mos.... He ahs left me in charge of everything... Except he forgot to leave me the duke PAS login... Does anyone know if that is the AMCAS ID?? I spoke with someone in the DUKE MED OFFICE AND HE SAID ALL ACCEPTANCES WERE MAILED THIS WEEKEND, BUT WE COULD CHECK STATUS ONLINE.... ANY HELP WOULD ROCK!!

Omg(osh), don't scare me like that... I just logged in to check after reading your message, and they don't provide any sort of status update one way or the other, so it is not going to help you to log in. The login is a unique password and user name that he chooses, not a ID number or anything like that. Are you sure about them mailing all acceptances this past weekend?

Hahahahaha! I went straight to my online account thinking, "Oh, this person may have a point--I may be able to find out if Duke accepted me online!." But alas, NOPE, no luck. You can't check your status on your Duke online account. Sorry! Good try, though.

Could they have sent them ALL out on Friday even when they were still having interviews??

All I Know Is That The Man Who Answered The Phone At The Duke Med. Office Said All Acceptances Were Mailed Out This Weekend... That Could Mean Sat Or Sun Or Today... I Suppose THEY COULD CONSIDER TODAY MAILING OUT ON THE WEEKEND.... I Am Going To Duke Pa School In The Fall And Wish I Could Pull Some Strings For My Boyfriend, But They Won't Tell Anything, Hahaha!

THANKS FOR EVERYONE"S HELP- Heather 🙂

It's possible... The late interviews could be lower priority/waitlist students. I would imagine that the acceptances come out faster than the rejections/waitlist letters.

To you lucky accepted people (congrats!) and...what are the details on the envelope? Big, small? Addressed funny? (Someone said last year the envelopes were addressed to "the future dr...."😉

So one of my buddies called the office today and Aaron said almost all decisions have been sent. He said most were sent Saturday with the rest going out this morning. He wouldn't give me any other details.

There is already a thread. It's in the allopathic section. AnEye started it I believe.

Wow... I am humbled. Have you ever been to Lubbock???

Stop freaking people out!

so if they were mailed Sat. that puts mine getting here on Wednesday. however, even knowing that, i can't help but expectantly wait for todays mail!

So if sent out on Sat:
East Coast:Mon
Midwest: Tues
West: Wed

Is it too late to send LOI, maybe a waitlist can be recalled like that guys interview invite after being sent?

do you know you're waitlisted yet or are you just anticipating?

No I don't know, I'm in the West. Just letting out some of the paranoia.

Oh how I wish they gave out tracking numbers for the letters.

well at this point, letters have gone out so i'd wait to see how you've fared before making any decisions.

good luck. 3 days.

You know I just had a crazy idea. Why doesn't someone call the admissions office and talk to Erin and be like, "Erin, I know that Duke is not giving out official acceptances or information over the phone, but is it possible to get unofficial information over the phone. For example, you can tell me if I am in, have been waitlisted, or rejected, and I know it is unofficial. You could be lying, but why would you lie to me right? Either way, you are not responsible since it is unofficial, and I will be calmed to know what is coming in the mail for me."

PS: I'm the kid that can't wait till Christmas morning for gifts.

Hmmm... since we're toying with the technicalities of their no-official-info-over-the-phone policy - I wonder if they'd give official information in person? I'd theoretically drop by the admissions office with a list of duke thread allstars names to get the early info if I could!

Why not just act like you're accepted and be like: "do you know what the status of my financial aid is, I just got my letter this morning, and I wasn't sure if you all forgot to put it in there or what?"

If they give you the info then you're in, if they're like uh you're not accepted yet, then you know WL or R.

If they call you on it then just say you meant acceptance...for interview...and that your mom just sent you an mail/paper copy.

Now... there is an idea. I don't think I have the balls for that one though. I'm more of a let me give you the situation type of person. I give the situation and if the person helps me out, that's great. If they don't, well that's on them for not helping me and I have no qualms. Your idea is too supersleuth for me... I would choke under all that pressure. 🙁

The acceptance is sent in a large manila envelop and, as was stated before, is addressed " (the future) Dr. so and so...

Inside the envelop you will find your acceptance letter, an instruction sheet, payment policy for international students, a statement of intent which you will have to return to keep your spot in the class, and a memo for people with physical and or learning disabilities on how to inform the school of their disability so that Duke can accommodate it.

Hope this helps and good luck to you all!

Sounds like a Dr. House in training

Wait... are you seriously going to do that??? If you are there, ask about the idea I proposed and see if they would unofficially tell us. Then, come back to sdn and tell us.

OMG!!! You are such a baller! It gives me goosebumps just thinking about a manilla envelope addressed to the future dr. femalescantdriv... PLEASE, DUKE, PLEASE LET ME IN! 😍

we need pics

Ya, agreed. Tape pieces of white paper over your name and then take pics and post them. We need to know what we should be dreaming about 😀

Photoshop, 10 seconds max, blur tool

I wonder how hard it would be to fake an acceptance letter and packet, show up at the Admissions office with all of your stuff. They tell you they have no record of your acceptance that they must have lost materials somewhere or sent out two decisions (WL and fake accept), and then demand acceptance. That would blow them away.

I'm sure someone has thought of this before.

You guys are lucky that I've got nothing better to do right now 😉

any particular reason you like to capitalize every single word? who's with me here? strange, right?

I know letters mailed from the east coast Thursday get to the rest of the coast on Saturday, with Saturday being the third day after they're mailed (if you count Thursday as day 1). Wouldn't that mean that mail sent on Saturday would arrive Tuesday on the east coast since Sunday does not count as a day?

If you try to capilitalize every single letter that you type, something in the system makes just the first letter capitalized. Or so I've been told.

Unlikely, since you pick your interview date. It doesn't necessarily follow that everyone offered an interview early picked an early interview date - therefore, the final interviewees could be top candidates.

this thread is blowing up...so anyone get mail yet today?? ... some times i wish i had never found this thread....here's to a few more hours of torture and possibly a few more days..

new addition to the status page

"Please do not contact the Office of Admissions
with questions regarding decisions. If you call or email our office,
we will not provide you with information regarding
any decision made by the Admission Committee."

Guess we shouldn't keep bugging them.

I received my letter from Duke today. I am so psyched.

To answer an earlier question, the envelope is a light manila and letter sized. It is addressed:

(the future) Dr. (address label here)

Good luck everybody.

The wonderful golden packages have spread - I got one in suburban DC area!

Good luck, all!
