We are enjoying the hubbub. It's amusing (and heartening) that people who want to go to Duke usually REALLY want to go to Duke. Reminds me of how I was last year around this time.

yes... all of the acceptance letters have not been sent out yet. apparently someone is saying that the last batch was sent yesterday. i can't confirm this.

also, there are a couple of people on mdapplicants.com that were waitlisted. so it appears that a few waitlist letters have already been sent out.

be patient. i am just as anxious and neurotic as the rest of you. I guess the best thing to do is keep your mind pre-occupied. Go to a movie, hang out with friends, go shopping.... whatever IT is that you like doing... do it. it will keep you from stressing too much. believe me... i don't want to go through another week of this either...

well friends its almost the end of the week. i have heard nothing thus far. good good good luck to everyone still waiting anxiously (i know i am) duke is, by far, the best medical school i know of. hopefully a few more of us can join the ranks of the select few that get to go there...

I don't know how large the final batch is but it is coming and I hope there's enough room for everyone still waiting:luck:

if i get in...HELLS YEAH!!! the weather friggin' sucks up here on Long Island. (i've also got family in Durham, so it's an added excuse to head down the end of this month.)

JohnMadden asked a similar question about 2nd Look subsidies. guess you'll either have to wait for info after getting your acceptance, or else call Aron at admissions and find out.
 
I posted yesterday that the last batch went out Wednesday at 4:30 PM. This is reliable because I spoke with the person who actually carried them to the mail. He said the batch contained all remaining decisions, including acceptances. No more speculation, guys... this is it. Everybody should hear their decision from Duke either today or tomorrow. Not everybody is getting rejected or waitlisted and the bulk of acceptances are on their way. Good luck! Hopefully we'll all meet eachother at 2nd look weekend and laugh about his thread.
 
Duke doesn't pay for second look....you'll have to travel here on your own, etc....or they didn't last year anyway....

Good question. Last year Duke welcomed guests from the beginning. I brought my girlfriend to second look. [I had already bought an engagement ring, so we were pretty serious....but she had no idea about the ring at that point]. She was moving wherever I was moving, so I thought she needed to come. She's here with me now and we're getting married in July.....

You know what... I say this with all sincerity too... I really hope that we all get in at Duke (everyone who is a regular on this thread). I think we would all mesh so well together and so well with the M2s, M3s, and M4s as well. If there is anything that sums up why I really loved Duke when I went and why I'm all over this thread all the time, it would have to be that in going to Duke (excellent education, curriculum, hospitals, etc, etc, we all know the baller stuff) I would be around a group of friendly people that I will be happy to call my colleagues one day and with whom I hope to make lasting friendships. I'm sorry for the cheese all over this post but I pulled an all-nighter for a biochem exam this morning so bare with me. 😍

FYI, the first years will be on spring break, so I'm not sure how many of us will be around to host. The upperclassmen may be around, but they're often busy. So you may be able to find a host, but I wouldn't count on it....

I called to confirm and a woman told me March 30. I was confused by this also...

You know, I am going to be really disheartened if no one on sdn gets in today either. That is going to be kinda crazy/messed up/troublesome. What will we all do if no one gets in today??? More of the same - speculation, countdowns, possible misinformation from various posters (I'm not naming names), and the like??? I have to leave for spring break on Monday and I do not want to have to wait on a bloody call from my parents being like "Um... ya, you were waitlisted our wonderful son Females. It's OK. It was a long shot anyway." That will be brutal. 🙁

oh and for encouragement i definitely do NOT have the same superhigh MCAT scores as those accepted on mdapplicants- so for those of you with less than perfect scores, they look at your other wonderful qualities too😉

i just went home for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see my Duke acceptance package in the mail!!!! 😀

My boyfriend just got a waitlist letter today... So those are also out for anyone wondering 🙂 Does anyone know the stats on getting off the waitlist? Is it ranked? Thanks for the help 🙂 Congrats everyone

the waitlist movement is pretty good and tell your bf not to give up hope even as late as jULY. I heard from Duke last year really late, almost end of jUNE which was one of the reasons i decided to defer. And don't forget to send LOIs. I sent so many and have a feeling that ultimately had sth to do with me getting off the waitlist even as late as June. all the best

Hey Females,

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm probably going to be heading to UNC. The only other school I'm seriously interested in is UPenn, but won't hear back from them until later this month. UNC just seemed to be a really good fit for me.

Duke is a great medical school but for my personal interests, it's probably not the best match. For example, I have no idea what I would do in my third year!😛

It's not ranked as far as anyone can tell. Rumor has it that Dr. Armstrong likes to have a very diverse class, and replaces students depending upon who decides not to come (ie, replace a white female varsity sport player with another white female varsity sport player, etc). I also don't know the stats on getting off, but I think last year there were ~100 on the waitlist (I'm not actually sure if this was confirmed by admissions or was just speculation here on SDN) and my educated guess is that at least 20 people got off, based on how many waitlisters I can think of in my class. I know some people got off the waitlist after writing an LOI (or several, in my case) and other people who did not write anything. So... it's mostly just waiting.
