I interviewed at Duke this year. It is a very academic program - research was really emphasized at the interview day. I was disappointed to find out they have 3 different away rotations (1 each during PGY1,2,3). That wasn't obvious to me during my program research - which I probably wouldn't have bothered to apply if I had known (family reasons - doesn't preclude everybody, but sure does me). There were 2 group interviews with the PD and the chair, then 1:1 with a faculty member. I felt a little overwhelmed with the group interviews, especially since there were 2 MD/PhDs in my group (and I have ZERO research experience). I didn't have much exposure to residents -not too many showed up for the night before social - some seemed friendly, but a bit stiff. My view might have been clouded by the away rotation business - I felt like it was pretty much a waste after that, plus I really didn't like group interviews.
