wow! One of my interviews was like all ethical questions. I wrote about how I handled a racial conflict in my class, and she dug really deeply into my conceptions of race, socioeconomic status, access to education and healthcare, etc...

One of the hardest interviews I did! Guess they aren't all like that.

i interviewed back in october and my letters havent been confirmed. i guess that means that i'm not going to committee. yay 🙁

You don't need to worry. Did you read the front page of your PAS login? It says "Do not assume that because your account indicates your letters have not been received that they are not in our office...A telephone call to our office (919-684-2985) can quickly verify that we do or do not have your letters of recommendation. " I'm pretty sure no one has had their lor status updated online, you're fine.

thats what i thought too until joyrunner posted

"The admissions office people gave me a tip. They said that when the status of your letters change it means that your file has gone to the adcomm for review. It won't change until then. Just thought I'd share info that is bound to give me a panic attack. I guess if you don't want to panic, don't check your status."

and then i started to wonder. my stats weren't exactly duke material yah blah

If your stats were good enough to get you an interview, it is highly unlikely that your application won't go to committee because of them.

I'm not sure if that tip is correct though. Sounds like a lot of people here not getting told that their status has changed and that does not seem consistent with the number that I know go to review with the adcomm.
 
In fact: Has anyone's letters been updated as received?
 
I called the admissions office today about the letters and they said that if you haven't received an email from them about not having your letters then they have them uploaded already...she said they are just behind on updating the website...she never mentioned that updating meant that your file was going to the adcom.

If no one's letters are updated yet, then maybe they meant that if the letters are updated then the committee has finished. (?) I think that this must be a better explanation. What I heard certainly wouldn't explain why no one's letters have been updated. Sorry for the alarm.

They said in our admissions meeting at the beginning of the interview day that decisions would start going out the first week of march. I don't know how the extended interview dates affect this.

Oh, and I felt really bad about the inaccurate info, so I looked again on the duke page, and i found this, which must be what they were referring to: "Since we do not upload your recommendations to your file until your application is presented to the Admissions Committee, you may want to verify that we have received your letters when you arrive for your interview OR post-interview in the event you forget during your visit to Duke."

It looks like they just didn't upload them at all, whether we were sent to committee or not.
 
i can't wait to find out...either way i just want to know! gah!

I think the missing step is the notification that your letters are uploaded. All of the candidates that I have interviewed, stretching from December through this past week, have had their letters of recommendation uploaded into the system.
 
Anyone else obsessed enough to be having Duke related dreams? I am waiting on both duke and columbia next week and I had a dream that there was a big blue envelope in my mailbox and I was so ecstatic but I couldn't get close enough to see which color blue it was.
Yes, I know i'm nuts.

on my interview day they said that the interviewers all had access to your letters even if it didn't say it on your PAS. so just think they aren't telling anyone that their LORs are there.
 
ok im really counting on duke. i felt i really clicked with my interviewers and after getting rejections elsewhere. i would love to have this one.

Hehe, I saw you all huddled in the hallway somewhere around 8:30am. I was in a hurry to avoid paying more than $1 for my parking though and to get my diet mountain dew caffeinated goodness. 🙂

It's so weird that you said that; Last night I dreamed that my letters had been uploaded and showed up on the web site as received. I woke up very tired.

Haha yes I've had Duke related dreams also. In one of mine I received my Duke letter wrapped as a gift. Although, I never got to open it so I don't know what it was. 😕
 
You guys are making me feel as though I don't care enough about a Duke acceptance. I want Duke dreams as well!
 
I had a dream that Duke was an incredibly gorgeous woman. Unfortunately, I woke up before I got my "acceptance."

OMG... I'm so sorry. I was planning on coming and talking to y'all but for some reason I thought y'all were interviewing today. For some reason, I had Friday in my head as the day all the SDN people were coming. I'm so sorry. I was in the admissions office for a bit yesterday, but I was just waiting on a buddy and then we went to lunch so I didn't really stay and chat it up so much. That is totally my bad. I don't know why I was thinking Friday. Good thing I read this because I was about to go down to the admissions office and drop those "Danica Patrick" bombs all over the place and everyone would have been like 😕

My bad. PM me if y'all have any questions or anything about Duke. My bad for not coming yesterday.

They haven't in the past, so I doubt they'd do it this year.
 
I got my Step 1 score by snail mail, but then my Step 2 score came electronically. It was faster, but I liked having a real piece of paper in my hands. There's something more... weighty about it.

She seems really nice. She saw me and my buddy in the elevator with our class hoodies on and she was like, "Nice sweatshirts." I know that's a lame story, but she seems nice either way.

I think they are shooting to send them out by next week b/c the last interview is march 3rd. So look for mail the second week of march...i'll be waiting too

My impression is that they will start sending out acceptances next week (but obviously not so many that people interviewing next week do not have an appropriate opportunity). Interviews continue through Friday, March 7.

Actually, I think they had to extend it to that next Tuesday. That's the last I heard in the office.

If that is next Tuesday then yes. Dude, jsol, I didn't realize you went to Rice. I lived in Houston for a summer and hung out with all Rice people. Please tell me you are enjoying the bubble tea in H-town, because I'm telling you, it is no bueno in Durham.

I got addicted to it my jr year but have been trying to buy it less to save money. I was getting two or three a week last year...so good

When I called last week, they said they'd have decisions out by March 15th. There may be earlier batches, of course.

Woo, thanks for calling. Good to finally have a date to anxiously wait on the mail to run.
 
I interviewed on the 29th, everyone was really nice but I could defiantly feel that the long interview season was starting to wear on the office. For what its worth the admissions director told us during her speech that mail would start leaving their office today (acceptances or rejections or both, I don't know) and she said they were looking at about 675 interviews this year. She then just told us that last year they accepted 175 students - outright - from which they had 96 (or somewhere very close to that, I don't remember exactly) confirmed by whatever the date you can hold only one acceptance and that they ended up taking 15 people off the wait list to end up at 101. I don't know if she mentions this every time or was just tired of getting asked, but i wanted to post it because its the most specific info I have come across. Also, as of about 2:00 today when I called to check on my recommendations, I was told with a quick check that only two people don't have them on file.
