Dukes Anonymous :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a friend who received an acceptance email as well. We interviewed last day, March 10th.

yeah, it's painful not to have gotten one. Hoping for the waitlist as well, but never the same, especially knowing the little movement in Duke lists

oh well, will continue to love my other acceptances

If only I had an acceptance. Oh, man, I'm feeling insanely sorry for myself.

What did it say in the e-mail? Are you guys local or regional interviewers? I'm not sure that this certainly means that all the acceptances for the week have been give, or that only people who received e-mails are getting in this week.

...i feel your pain

maybe I'm in denial, but I'd like to think Duke honors what it posts on the website (dukemed.duke.edu account)

"All decisions for applicants who have interviewed for admission to the 2007 entering class are sent via the U.S. Postal Service and will be mailed from the Office of Admissions during the month of March 2007. To insure your privacy and to protect the integrity of the admission process, no decisions will be transmitted over the telephone or through e-mail at any time or under any circumstances."

While I doubt MS1's are playing with our insanity, perhaps we're getting delusional?

Duke also might have sent a batch of letters on Friday, as they had planned on. Because Monday is later than expected, perhaps they e-mailed the people who were accepted today.

None of the "first round," as far as I can tell, received a snail mail acceptance but no e-mail. And some of the "first round" of acceptees received e-mails before paper mail. Finally, it seems that during the "first round" they sent only one batch of e-mails, all at the same time. Maybe people didn't post after they received them because it's later at night. There's a shred of hope left in me, I won't lie, but I truly think that's all she wrote. I just can't see why they'd change it up and send batches of e-mails or e-mails only to some people for the "second round" after what they did during the "first round."

I guess it's a bit of a relief that the wait is over, but I really do feel like crying right now.

here's my answers to some of the last few thoughts:

we interviewed on the last day of interviews, Monday March 10th. I (and a number of people who interviewed then) was supposed to get a regional interview, but they couldn't schedule one. So they sent out an email to all of us basically telling us they were adding a final day for interviews that Monday.

When we interviewed, we were told the decisions would come out thur/friday (the second batch I think), and Richard Wallace actually said they would send out info by mail, so it's def a change in policy. But someone mentioned that because 2nd week is so soon maybe they decided to change things around this time

I guess we can call em tomorrow and find out. I would like for their to be another explanation, to hold out hope for a yes, but also accept that not having gotten an email may be bad news

good luck to all, esp pple without any acceptances.

I had a dream I got waitlisted last night and I didn't get an email today. I would be happy if I got on the waitlist... but the wait has been too long...

A friend of mine was notified of acceptance via phone call today, and received an email almost the exact same time.

well, let's hope they didn't finish sending out emails today and will continue tomorrow =P

Torchwood, you are kidding, right?!? Um, that last shred of hope, it's gone, torn to pieces. Now I'm going to pour myself a big glass of red wine and try and move on with my life.

But one last thing: last night I was driving my car back from the US to Canada and the wait at the border crossing was 1.5 hours. I had to pee--in actual fact, I've never felt so desperate to urinate in my life--and I was sitting in a huge line of unmoving traffic, DYING, thinking, "How the hell am I going to make it until after customs?!?" After weighing all my options, I eventually decide to give my keys to the passenger in the car next to me and make a run for it, 800m or so, to the nearest gas station. When I finally got back (VERY out of breath), a very sweet man was in my car, trying to move it up. He got out, I thanked him profusely, and as he was walking away I saw that he was wearing a Duke jacket! WTF?!? God just played a really, REALLY mean trick on me since He had to know I was not accepted. Sigh.

well, let's hope they didn't finish sending out emails today and will continue tomorrow =P

so, i have doubts about dancemagicdance receiving an email.

I also had doubts about the validity of dancemagicdance's post, but then at least 2 more people have posted--there's no way dancemagicdance could have timed a fake post with 2+ other people also getting e-mails. Sorry to be the downer here, but I think we all have to face the music.

OK, now I'm really going to get that wine.

I looked through the posts and apparently everyone who was accepted during the first batch got an email on March 10. Anyone find anything different? This will probably indicate that a batch was sent today and those people who didn't get e-mails today didn't get in this batch. Does anybody know if there is the possibility of even another batch? Perhaps they didn't get through all the candidates and they wanted to send something out soon.

I'm lucky I got an acceptance from a really good school already, so I can be the optimistic voice here. People, really, nothing is for sure unless they give you an official notice. Be it R/W/A. I have learned not to over-stress myself and deal with R/W/A when they come. SDN has helped a lot in terms of expected timing of these notifications.

nova1983, now I think Duke is going to haunt my medical career forever.

*hopes my inbox was full and the message bounced*

I'm abroad so by that logic, they would have sent me an email too (if they decided to accept me)? Hmmmmm...... this is discouraging. Guess I will just have to wait for a letter (whatever it is) from Duke to resolve this.

i'm on board with byronicbear's hesitation to thinking duke has sent emails out.

yes, they did send emails to some people before they received their acceptances in the mail, but there were many more people that received snail mail before the email (i believe the adcom thought they would have received the snail mail acceptances by then)....so, i have doubts about dancemagicdance receiving an email.

in addition, the emails that the "first batch" people received only spoke about the 2nd look, and said nothing about an acceptance being mailed to them (as dancemagicdance stated).

I'm having trouble believing the email thing... maybe it's just denial, but this just doesn't seem right. We should have had more acceptances. We would have had a couple waitlist/rejections, right? I just... don't know...

I actually had a Duke letter dream last night. I dreamt that someone found out that the Duke acceptances/rejections/waitlists were all in a big basket that was soon to be carried over to the post office. There was apparently a really big puddle and there was concern over the letters getting wet. Good luck everyone. Here's hoping for some good news :luck:. You all really, really deserve to be accepted.

I just called the admissions office and they said the last set of acceptances were sent out yesterday. The waitlist/rejection letters will be sent out this Friday so everyone should have 1 of the 3 letters by next week.

Thanks for calling them! Good luck everyone👍

This sadly gives credibility to last night's email... 🙁

Does anyone besides me think that it is strange that dancemagicdance (2 posts just joined sdn), chemu (4 posts, just joined sdn), and skir4159 (1 post just joined) are the only ones who know anything about an acceptance email.

I do not accept the emial theory. I reject it because something about theses posts does not sit right with me.

That is my two cents.

Sorry to burst you guys' bubbles, but my best friend got the email last night. She is a current Duke student, and she has no reason to lie to me. She got it at about 8:30pm, which I thought was strange, but I know is true. So. Emails were sent - it did happen.

Cool hey, do you (or anyone else) happen to know if they sent out emails yesterday to everyone who got accepted in that last batch or just certain people?

I was just feeling utterly sorry for myself when "Everything's not lost" started playing on my computer. I feel better.

Thanks for calling! Guess I'll be hoping for the waitlist now! 🙁

It seems like everyone who was accepted yesterday was emailed (or most people, at least). There isn't really a doubt that the email messages are true. these people only have a few posts because they lurk until they have really good info to post, and most of us are thankful for this info.

Still, its possible that some of us may get good news in a couple days, because they probably didn't email all those accepted on friday (and possibly may not have emailed everyone accepted yesterday). The chance of this seems small, though.

I got an email from duke last night too..... to fill out their post-interview survey. tease. damn, was really hoping for that acceptance!

I called the Admissions Office 5 minutes ago. They said that if we haven't received an acceptance email yet, that means we are either rejected or wait-listed. Darn. Hope everyone has other schools they like! Or at least patience.

Can anyone confirm this poster? seems a bit weird

Confirmed. According to the person answering calls, you can assume a rejection or waitlist if you have not received the second-look email.

peace out Duke....wasnt sure I wanted you but you were in the top 4...ego is now bruised....and i thought my interviews went really really well...which is a bad omen for Harvard, since those went really well too....

NYC here we come!!!

Don't lose hope, guys. Duke actually has pretty good waitlist movement because, for whatever reason, people think they would rather be in the NE than in Durham, NC (of course waitlist movement does vary from year to year). If you really love Duke and think it's a good fit for you, let them know that! Duke loves people who want to be here. If you have any questions whatsoever for someone who was a previous waitlistee, feel free to ask me or the other 3-4 regular posters on here that were also initially waitlisted. My biggest unsolicited advice would be to let Duke know you love them while assuming you're going elsewhere (or doing something else altogether), so that if you do end up getting accepted it's icing on the cake rather than a huge disappointment.

now that the second batch is out...looks like this thread has officially died lol

A bit of heads up... I think they probably sent out the emails to notify people so that those who were accepted could start making flight arrangements for second look (since it is pretty close).

For those of you who are down, don't be. I was WLed last year, and I obviously currently go to Duke. G'luck with the rest of the process and PM me if you have any questions about the WL or Duke or anything.

Totally agree. Let's be realistic - the chances of getting off the WL are slim, but, you never know.

"slim" is a difficult statement to make. FCD, diosa, and Burnsie were all waitlisters, and for my class they pulled a crapton off the list. you should see TW, the last one off for 2010. dregs of society, I'm telling you. I call him "caboose".

just kidding. <3 TW.

Seriously, though - Duke WL movement is seriously unpredictable, but I expect there to be something happening after May 1 rolls around. Mark my words, 2nd look weekend will be filled with people "deciding between" Wash U and Duke or UMich and Duke, and some will choose not-Duke. Happens every year.

I'm one of those who didn't get an email, and hoping for waitlist.

While I've gotten into a number of schools I love, especially in NYC (where I'd love to go to school), one reason I love Duke (after only 1 year pre-clinical) is the no of full tuition scholarships offered. I was hoping I'd get considered for Dean's Merit scholarship for minority students.

I'm curious it's even possible to be able to get one of these full tuition scholarships coming off waitlist? I'd think they give out scholarship to accepted students to lure them to the school, and few would give em up to go somewhere else (unless they got other full tuition offers)?

Hmmm... I'm not sure how that works. I have a friend who got off the WL at Baylor last year and got a full-tuition minority scholarship. You never know... it could happen after second look. When people actually come and meet me and see how awkward I am, they will probably choose to go elsewhere. It's fine. I take it all in stride.

I thought MB was last off the wl. PS it took me like 10 mins to figure out who TW is. PPS l&d is dead tonight.

EkLiLian started a Duke 2012 Thread in the "Allopathic Class Threads" forum... come post over there so the Duke thread can dominate that forum just like its ruled Pre-Allo.

Haha... we tried that last year, but everyone was so used to this forum that we just stayed here. Let's see how it works out this year.

Wow this thread is quickly dying...Here's to hoping for a waitlist spot and for good waitlist movement!!

OK so a bit of an update... not all acceptances have been sent out yet, so stop freaking out. Just be patient. I'll tell you when you really need to start freaking out - the minute someone posts with a rejection or WL. Until then, there is really no need for all of this "Am I not accepted?" business. Just relax, relax, don't do it, when you wanna go to it, relax, relax, don't do it... when you wanna come... I'm not even sure what the words of that song are. OK anyway, that's all I know for now.

PS: Patience is a virtue.

:luck::luck::luck:

Nobody's posted anything about a waitlist/rejection letter.... WE STILL HAVE HOPE

- still in denial

Heh, I'm also kind of quietly pretending that there's still a glimmer of hope.

There could be some hope...I contacted the Dean yesterday and she said that the last round of acceptance were mailed that morning. So people could be getting nice acceptance packets in the mail today! But it is unlikely that there will be people who will receive a packet but not receive the 2nd look email/phone call
