2025-2026 Duke

Duke just scrapped their M2M, how are you guys going to adress 7 now?
I did a lot of research on M2M to make sure my essays is specific and genuine to Duke, but now I'm wondering if I should treat it as a more general diversity essay. I'm just hoping it's a surface level change and they will still value the diversity prompt

Got any link to a news article about that?

Anyone have trouble paying? For some reason I keep getting an error message with Duke—I’ve tried various browsers and cards

wtf lmao what do we say then for that prompt LMFAO

I'd say the prompt is less about the M2M movement and more about a general healthcare disparity you have witnessed

^ seconded! I submitted Duke a few days ago while the M2M links were still up (I can't believe they're removed already), but my essay mainly revolved around a personal experience with a healthcare disparity. I did mention M2M in the conclusion of my essay, so I hope that doesn't change anything now that they've scrapped that initiative

I submitted before this happened, but the M2M stuff always felt weak to me. The last reference to things they did was in like 2021 or 2022.

You could write a good essay without even mentioning any of the M2M stuff, and looking back on my essay that's what I did.

I just plan on addressing it as a general diversity essay now that the M2M is gone. Bring in the personal stuff for sure, but I don't think it makes sense to try and refer back to M2M if it's been scrapped

Like saltykiosk said, all the links specifically referring to M2M redirect to a different link. You can Google it and find results but the actual links lead elsewhere

"3. Describe a situation in which you chose to advocate for someone who was different from you or for a cause or idea that was different from yours. Define your view of advocacy. What risks, if any, might be associated with your choice to be an advocate? (400 words)"

Trying to brainstorm for this one, but I can't necessarily think of anything compelling in particular. Unsure how to answer it
I thought a lot about it, and I don’t think a medical scenario would fit because you shouldn’t bring your personal perspective to medical setting anyway, and we already have so many medical stories for other essays. Political might be too sensitive and risky. I am going with a personal story of backing up someone who was always hostile toward me because I felt like they were being misjudged in that specific scenario

Finally submitted the secondary for Duke. They better give me an interview with how much effort I put into their damn app.

Is it too late to submit a secondary here? Got so burnt out with my other apps and never got around to finishing mine 🙁

In all seriousness, I don't think Duke does rolling admissions like other schools. If you don’t shoot your shot, it’s a guaranteed rejection

Had a few people reach out to me with Duke questions so just putting my info out there in this year's thread. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you have any questions about the program/curriculum!

Does anyone have advice on submitting updates to schools that allow them? I recently had papers published where i was an author (never have before) and I want to update them but unsure how to format. Should i just submit a pdf of the paper(s) or a pdf type up saying that i submitted with a link?

I would try to upload them on the AMP portal if possible, and if there is no way to do that, then check MSAR to make sure they allow updates. I would try sending their admissions email with a PDF of your update (should be one page only) and a brief email saying pretty much "here is a recent update." I just checked this for Duke, and it seems like they prefer that you upload to the AMP portal. As for the specific paper, feel free to include the full name of the publication and maybe an AMA or APA citation. In my AMCAS activity statements, I included my publications as fully AMA cited, so they can see your authorship and read the paper if they want. Congrats on the publications!

Thank you so so much!

Do you think it's good to write thank you letters post-interview or would that not be necessary?

Based on previous session the dean seems kind of not the biggest fan of any letter that’s not related directly to the application

Completed my interview this week. Just dropping in to let others know that while the format sounds stressful its actually really fun. I found the MMI to be a very relaxed experience. Favorite interview I have done so far. if you get an II don't panic about the format, the time will fly by.

Has anyone who received an interview not been able to sign up yet? The calendar is empty for me.

does Duke take recommendation letters from current medical students? is that a normal thing to do lol?

I can second this as well. I was stressed at first from past years threads but I think they have made some modifications based on feedback.

Anyone who has done a PCLT interview have any advice or how the interview is generally structured? I have one coming up any advice would be really appreciated!

When did PCLT reach out to you about an interview vs scheduling your regular Duke interview?

I understand Duke mentions accepting updates regarding published papers or awards but is it acceptable to send an update letter regarding activities completed so far through the gap year, like a traditional update letter?

Wondering the same thing! I was going to err on the side of caution and submit only my publication updates since they explicitly call out only pubs and awards... but curious to hear others' thoughts

Same here! I have significant updates on research. I have joined multiple projects since submitting my secondary and have also submitted an abstract for a conference in the spring. However, i have no official publications. Is it worth it to send in an update lutter just on the research even without the official publication??

Would love to hear others' thoughts, but unless you have a publication that has been accepted, I would not update them on this... reason being, in the portal, these are the options for updates (they specify publications that have been accepted but not other research updates)...
