Hi all-

quick question about separating from the military. I did an outservice residency and have a statement of service as a result that states the following ADSD 6/27/2011- (actually all the dates besides the paydate are 6/27/11). I also checked into my command on 7/6/2011.

I contacted BUMED to see when my obligation is over and it is Aug 2015 (i did not sign any additional contracts besides the typical ASP/ISP). After that response, I have supplied the statement of service that I received in 2011 to see if that changes anything.

Any thoughts as to whats going on?

Happy Holidays all and thanks for the advice.

What did your orders say. It's pretty standard with the navy for out service residency trained (NADDS and FAP) to have their orders have a check in date in August.

When did you date your ISP and ASP? Hopefully you back dated your ASP to your check in date. Again, in the Navy your ISP would generally be tied to the start of fiscal year, 1 Oct. I'm guessing you didn't take an ISP or else other branches do it different.

Will check my orders- thanks

but does it matter what the orders say my check it date is, my actually check in date or my active duty date? My plan was not to take isp, asp is date July 1.

What are the sources of your obligation? ROTC, HPSP, FAP? More than one?

Was your GME training uninterrupted?

I get a little fuzzy on the civilian deferral residency terminology. Were you paid anything by the military while in residency?

Do you remember if you were charged ordinary leave from 27 June through 6 July 2011?

HPSP is the source. was full defer for residency and was not paid anything during this time (did not incurr obligation). I was not charged leave.

Over the phone, BUMED claimed that my EAOS should be the first of the month after I started active duty which when I mentioned the dates on the statement of service is June 27th, therefore my eaos should be July 1 not Aug. Will see what they put in writing via email.

I think HPSP adds a couple of months to your ADSD due to the rotations you do during med school that count as active time as you are under orders. Since it was before you graduated it doesn't count as payback. This would make your ADSD shift to the left relative to your actual check-in date. I have something similar with my ADSD as well.

Is this what you are asking?

I didn't think acute duty clerkships/rotations move the date to the right (i assume you meant to the right not left). I am pretty sure the HPSP contract is 1 year of payback for each year of support (not 1 year plus 1 month for rotations, etc) plus a total time in the IRR of 8 years (e.g. 4 years of active payback but a total of 8 years of active and reserve). But I could be wrong. I'll update the thread when I get some solid info in writing from BUMED and after I check my orders on BOL later.

Kind of off topic - how do you find out when your EAOS is? I've always assumed I know but it would be nice to see in writing or hear from someone who has that information.

The left shift is your ADSD.

I am only speculating, but maybe there is that "separate on the first and retire at the end of the month" thing. Sorry, not much help I guess.

So a update- the Navy got it wrong. My separation date is july not august its only one month difference but its a crucial month as decisions for future employment, receiving bonuses etc can change based on such dates.
