if the deadline for early decision for a school was beginning of august and you are getting your mcat score back end of august, can you still apply early decision or do you need to have your score by the deadline?

Call your school. I think amcas will let you select and apply via EDP but that doesn't mean your school would consider you without an MCAT, especially if the school has a minimum MCAT score for EDP as many do. I wouldn't want to apply edp before you get your score if there is a minimum score. It would be a disaster if the school won't let you in early due to an MCAT score but amcas won't let you apply anywhere else since you used edp. I believe schools mayer you apply elsewhere in this situation but I have looked and can't find it written anywhere so I wouldn't count on it. Don't apply edp without knowing your score. What if you destroy the mcat and get a 44? You wouldn't want to limit yourself to only one school when many would likely offer you free money.

Call the school and double check that they will accept an August MCAT score.

The above poster is correct: if the program rejects you pre-interview, then the school can release you from your contract, thereby allowing you to apply to additional schools well before Oct 1. However, if they interview you and reject you, then you won't be able to apply to new schools until after October 1
