Hi everyone,

I'm stuck in a situation that I hope someone else has seen. I want to apply to MD programs and matriculate in Fall 2004, but I will be in Asia all next year. The program I will be with says explicitly that travel back to the US for job and grad school interviews is not an option. I leave in late August and don't come back until the following July.

Does anyone know how I could (or should) go about applying? Will med schools interview me over the summer or something like that? Thanks so much for your help!

it's really doubtful. from what i've seen, there really isn't a whole lot of leeway in terms of timing of interviews - especially asking for an interview before most people even receive their secondaries. but ask your pre-med advisor - he/she could probably point you in the right direction.
are you doing a study-abroad program in asia? you know...i would definitely recommend going ahead and taking a year to do something before med school. i know it doesn't feel like it, but for most people, there's no rush to get started. i would work for a year, or travel some more, or ...i don't know. i personally feel really happy with my choice to do grad school and work for a while before applying to med school.
good luck! 🙂

This coming year is actually my year off, in a way. I graduate in just a month. I'll be working working in medicine there as part of a scholarship. Originally, I only wanted to take one year off before med school, but maybe I'll have to wait longer...
