Hey everyone,

So I've been reading around, and I see that some allopathic schools offer an early decision program. I was just curious as to what the acceptance rates are to these programs, specifically U of Rochester, and whether or not it is worth my time to more-or-less suicide rush this one school. Thanks!

They aren't really any higher. Unless you have a compelling reason to only apply to one school it isn't a good idea.

The thing with ED is if you don't get in, you are still considered for regular admissions and can apply to other schools too, but you'd be applying relatively late compared to other people. I really believe that if an applicant is good enough, the chance of being accepted through regular decision is about the same as doing ED.

You want to inquire (with admissions) regarding your competitiveness because applying EDP could put you at a disadvantage at other schools if you are not accepted (due to a delay in review).

What sort of reasons could people bring up? Ties to the area?

Currently doing research at the school's facilities, being a student at another college at the same university, or fitting in with a part of their mission statement unique to that school (for example, it might be the only rural SOM in that state and you want to practice in a rural environment).

Or something along the lines of "I've got a kid going to school in this area and I don't want to uproot my family so this is the only real option for me."
