If you choose to apply via the EDP, is it possible to use a separate application to apply regularly to other schools while waiting to hear back from your EDP school?

No. That's against the rules.

Edit: For MD institutions, No. I don't believe that AMCAS and ACOMAS share info, and so you may be able to apply DO in the meantime. Ethically inappropriate, but you might get away with it.

Which is precisely why, unless you are an excellent to outstanding candidate who is an excellent to outstanding match to the mission of the school, EDP is not an advisable way to go for the vast majority of applicants. It can put way behind the timing curve at every other school and that makes it a big risk. I rarely advise applicants to seek this path.

Have you spoken to the school about EDP?

That makes sense. I was under the assumption that if you are committed to a school, they might witness your commitment to that institution and that can positively impact your acceptance.

No I haven't spoken with them.

Your assumption is naive at best and your not speaking to the school about this first is a huge negative.

Without knowing any possible very strong reasons why your situation, connection to the school, etc, you seem a weak candidate at best. EDP is likely not for you .
