Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had information on the Early Decisions Programs that medical schools offer. Just as a whole, is applying through increase your chances of being accepted or is it really just a chance for the school to see your application before the rest of the applicants? Obviously it is risky because if you don't get accepted you are behind the game because you can only submit applications for other schools at the beginning of October.

These programs could differ from school to school, I'm just seeing if anyone has experiences or other info/opinions!

Thank you

I'm hoping to apply EDP because my spouse has a stable job where we live and we have lots of family here to help with the kids. I'd imagine most, if not all, schools look for reasons like that: why do you have to go to this school? How would not getting in here be a detriment to your future career? Otherwise, I'm not sure I understand why you would limit your opportunities. (And expect that a school might ask you that during an interview, so you need to have a good answer.)
Additionally, schools list minimum stats requirements for EDP, which are usually at or above the median acceptance stats for the school.

As an example of the above, check out the website for University of Cincinnati's early decision requirements.

If you think it's the right option for you, make an appointment with an admission's adviser at the med school you're looking at to discuss it.
